Attending the Women in Investment Event was a unique experience to network with current employees and learn more about the opportunities available at Aberdeen Standard Investments. I would truly recommend attending this Insight (afternoon) to learn more about the company and get tips on how to apply for a role in this organisation.
Very friendly culture and there are always people that you can meet to gain an insight into the company. The work I was doing was very related to my interests and I was surrounded by people who, despite being different to myself, I got on very well with. The way the internship programme and graduate scheme link was fantastic as it allowed opportunities to socialise with others from around the business areas as well as opportunities to have a night out! All of this made this a very enjoyable internship.
The programme is poorly structured: very little social interaction with other interns or other departments, the teams don't have concrete projects, HR is testy when you contact them. They don't want you to learn about the business outside of your team and actively discourage you to. It's a shame because the people there are very willing to help but department heads will try to hold you back and discourage you from finding your own fit, vastly different from the culture at other competing firms.
I was involved with BAU tasks that made me take ownership of the team's tasks. On top of that I was assigned a variety of long-term projects that were extremely engaging, made me feel useful and helped me learn a lot along the way about the business, the industry, and the software used on a daily basis.
I have really enjoyed my 10 week internship at Aberdeen Standard Investments. I feel the support I have received from the intern programme has been excellent and they really tailored it to our development needs. The placements have been varied and challenging and I feel I have really contributed to important pieces of work whilst I have been here.
Everyone within the team is welcoming and willing to help. HR ensure that you have a combination of soft skill sessions to compliment your professional skill development. Living in London is very exciting and the work life balance ensures that you are able to experience the best of both your career and the city.
I have enjoyed being involved in a number of different projects that I could a lot from. The diversity of works I have performed helped me to get a wider view of what Investment is. I loved being part of a group of interns, because this offered me the possibility to engage with a lot of new different people.
I really enjoyed my internship. Firstly I was able to satisfy my interest in client service. Being part of the Global Insurance team it was really interesting seeing how they interact with the firm's Insurance clients. Further I enjoyed being kept busy with a variety of tasks and challenges. Finally it was great to be a part of the wider internship, getting to know the other interns and attending training days formed another highlight for me.
Company made quite a good effort to create events for interns and offer chances for us to socialise. Offered free accommodation within central Edinburgh and enough interns (~40) for there to always be someone to do something with. The department gave solid exposure to wider asset management functions and was able to spent a good deal of time getting to discuss many team roles with managers during the internship.
Enjoyable, was given good responsibility within the team. Work was fulfilling and made an impact on team. Particularly enjoyed some of the meetings I was able to attend and the external people I was able to meet - those at the top of their field. Was some down time, but I kept busy.
It was a very enjoyable internship. The team I worked in within Operations were very welcoming, and helped answer any questions I had about the department and wider business. The breadth of tasks I was given were wide and allowed me to develop and enhance a wide variety of skills.
My time at ASI has been brilliant. I have worked in a department that has fitted my skills really well, with large amounts of variation and no one day has been the same! Having a buddy as a port of call on top of my line manager, has created different points of contact for any issues. I have been in the loop with key business activities and have progressed from basic tasks, to issues that require a well rounded knowledge of the department.
I really enjoyed the internship and I believe it was well organised. I found that I was encouraged to be involved in the social aspect of the internship with both other interns and graduates. By building relationships with the interns and graduates, I was able to develop a social circle fairly quickly within a new city. The internship allowed me to work closely with my team but also speak with others who work in different areas of the business and allowed me to get a better understanding of the company.
ASI have created an amazing internship, the people are fantastic, the work is amazing and the responsibility given by your team is second to none as an intern. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as an intern, and would highly recommend the internship. I will be sad to leave at the end of 10 weeks!
