I am really enjoying my placement and am surprised at the amount of responsibility I have. The entire placement is on site which I think is useful to know. My work is varied despite working predominantly in the water sector, which I find very interesting. The site I work on for the majority is quite big (reservoir) and it is great to be involved with such an interesting project.
It has really given me a good perspective on what it's like to work in the working world. I have been given man interesting tasks, had deadlines to meet and had a lot of responsibility rest on me. I feel apart the team within the department I work in and every day I'm continuously learning something new.
I enjoy my placement a lot, although when the work load is little (which isn't often) it can become a bit slow, therefore boring, but due to the people I work with even the boring times are fun! The year has showcased what a career in the field would be like.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I was quickly assimilated with colleagues and was eased into the job well. I didn't feel out of my depth. The work load was well managed by my line manager and as I gained confidence with my decisions and workload, I was given more responsibility and eventually felt my part of the project I was involved in was valued and an important aspect of the project. In addition, I felt that I have gained a lot of site experience, very quickly. This paired with training courses, my understanding of the construction industry, health and safety etc. has heightened.
I really enjoyed my placement with JN Bentley, it really allowed me to value the skills and knowledge I gained at university and to realise how important they are when working within the industry. Completing the tasks I was given really gave me a sense of achievement, as they contributed to real projects within the industry.
The work I conducted was largely enjoyable and what I envisaged doing as a Civil Engineer- this meant my placement was rewarding and enjoyable. Extracurricular and social activities with my JN Bentley colleagues only made it a more enjoyable place to work.
There were great staff in my office to work with leading to a really good working environment. There were also two projects which I was privileged to work on as they offered me great knowledge in the construct industry as they required me to be hands on and also in the office workplace.
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at JN Bentley working as a site based mechanical engineer on the largest project the company had ever undertaken. I gained a huge insight into project management, as well as what it's like to work as a mechanical engineer within the water industry. I would definitely recommend the role, especially to candidates who are driven to take on responsibilities and make the most of their placement year.
