Couldn't have asked for a better opportunity. I felt I integrated really well within the team, and was trusted with responsibility that gave me an experience I couldn't have imagined for a placement. Thoroughly enjoyed the practical aspect of the placement. Was mainly site based. At first was daunting but everyone was very helpful and patient which allowed me to learn. Eventually felt one of the team as opposed to just being there on placement
I did a 6 week placement at JNB at their Rolls-Royce framework in Derby. It was interesting to see and work on several different sites and do a bit of design work. The staff were friendly and helpful. There were a few issues with IT which meant I couldn't do anything myself for the first week.
Very insightful placement, you gain a lot on knowledge of construction, health and safety, and get site engineering hands on experience. Though there were periods where work I have been doing hasn't been quite interesting or work on site was slow or repetitive but this is the nature of construction, though those periods were still beneficial to my learning as a placement student.
I fully enjoyed my placement at JN Bentley. Am not exaggerating when I say the company has a family feel to it. I don't even know how they do it. I enjoyed every morning coming to work. JN Bentley is vastly embedded into many civil engineering frameworks as well as other disciplines, electrical, mechanical and commercial, this allows you learn so many skills. Everybody spares their time to educate you. Being at JN Bentley has immersed me into a whole new form of learning that I have never had before. JN Bentley is so blessed with a plethora of academic resources, that will allow you complete your studies efficiently i.e. your dissertation. The company also has amazing benefits and allows a lot of time and resource to co-curricular activities, trust me, you won't find this anywhere else.
Really enjoyed my placement, had the choice of extending my placement into summer. I have been given all the support I have required and I have been given loads of responsibilities. I get on with everyone I have met in J N Bentley. If you don't know how to do something they don't mind you asking as many questions until you understand it.
I have enjoyed working on different projects and being exposed to different elements of flood defences. The colleagues that I have worked with have aided in making the year educational as well as enjoyable such that I can look back over the year and have seen a natural progression in my ability and the quality of work being carried out.
I have greatly enjoyed being thrown into the placement into different job roles and responsibilities and the enjoyment of being challenged to learn new things on the job and solving different problems. I have been very lucky to be placed unto some dynamic and interesting projects during my placement which has made it all the more enjoyable. There has been periods where work I have been doing hasn't been quite interesting or beneficial to my learning as a placement student but for the most part I have learnt a lot.
My placement was very enjoyable however some days I was stuck doing mind numbing tasks - the office environment was great and everyone was very friendly so that helped a lot. I believe it gave me an insight to what actual working life would be like, so I am no longer as nervous about the future.
Bentleys is really enjoyable to work for- as a company it is people orientated which is great to know that grades isn't everything- Bentleys looks for great people with an enthusiasm for their career. Ive been given a lot of responsibility, however I feel this is optional. As a site engineer im naturally learning and becoming more rounded in my knowledge.
I've honestly enjoyed the entire experience. I worked as a site engineer where I was giving the opportunity to work on a variety of different treatment sites. Everyday has come with new challenges and an opportunity to learn. This placement has reaffirmed my decision to work on site after graduation.
My placement has offered me a great insight into working life. Being given responsibility to manage projects and get involved with team decisions. It has been very beneficial to my learning and advancing my capabilities. My placement has allowed me to gain confidence in a professional environment as well as an individual, creating working relationships and progressing in my job role. However, I feel I have had too much autonomy in contrast to the support I have been given in return.
JN Bentley is an excellent company, working here i felt a valued member of a team who cared about my opinions. Throughout my placement year i learned a lot working on different schemes of projects as a site engineer; taking this placement year was definitely best decision I've ever took.
9/10. Learnt lots, excellent company with family feel. Excellent opportunities to work in office and on site. Always felt motivated and valued, learning lots and seeing the projects I worked on develop from designs to functioning water treatment works. Good social side with plenty of social events in evenings, watching football in pub with colleagues or bowling.
I am really enjoying my placement year. When applying for a placement, I thought I would be able to get a flavour of working life and the kind of tasks that I may one day be doing, however here at J N Bentley I am able to experience this first hand as a valued and equal member of the purchasing team.
