I completed the 8 week internship programme and extended it for a further two months. I enjoyed the variety of exposure given within the 8 weeks and how I was able to build a thorough grounding in all aspects of the business. There is a large emphasis on running it yourself and making it what you want, which is what I loved.
At first the internship was very daunting, it is difficult to go from a university lifestyle to working a 9-5 routine however, the support given is amazing literally. Working in the banking industry is typically very pressured and stressful for interns however, at Handelsbanken the Swedish culture literally waives that. Whilst you have a lot to learn and must do so quickly, the pressure factor is not there as much and instead, support at any given time.
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with Handelsbanken. I felt the whole process right through the application stage to being offered a full time role with Handelsbanken was smooth and I was were well informed along the way. You were given regular training days with other interns so you can share your experiences and develop yourself for your role back in branch.
My internship at Handelsbanken was a great experience I honestly could not recommend it enough, it has enabled me to develop a strong array of skills in a work environment. It also allowed me to apply the theoretical knowledge I had learnt through my degree to a relevant job role in the sector. Handelsbanken provides a great opportunity to experience the UK banking industry and I would thoroughly recommend the experience to any one.
I loved it. It was very useful, and it gave my a broad experience in banking. Both in the personal and corporate side of things. I went to see customers several times. I experienced the mortgage process from the first meeting to drawdown
The internship was much more engaging than I expected and really enjoyed the working environment. From start to finish I was given resposibility for my own tasks and had a great deal of support from my colleagues. The future opportunities with the bank also look promising. Through the whole internship I felt motivated to go to work and never had a bad day.
I enjoyed the internship at Handelsbanken very much. The 8 weeks I spent in a branch went very quickly and the support from the branch and the team in the regional head office was fantastic. It made me feel settled straight away. Despite studying a degree in Geography, the branch had me involved in all sorts of banking activities and tasks and also involved many visits out to meet customers and potential clients. There was real responsibility and exposure to how the bank works from day 1.
I thoroughly enjoyed my summer internship with Handelsbanken. I feel I got a very varied experience of two local branches of the bank and met a lot of lovely, passionate people. I have developed both professionally and personally throughout the internship and it has solidified my ambition to go into the banking industry after completion of my degree.
I very much enjoyed the Handelsbanken internship. It was great to meet clients and sit in a variety of meetings, in addition to visiting local businesses. I felt I was able to get a good flavour of what it would be like working for Handelsbanken and I found the culture very appealing. I enjoyed learning new skills such as how to navigate the systems, but also I was able to learn a lot about banking in general, especially by discussing real facilities offered to the branch's clients.
My internship was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I learnt and developed many skills, experienced the world of work, met some lovely people, completed an array of tasks, visited customers and overall had a fantastic 12 weeks. I could not have spent my university summer holiday in a better organisation and the internship has definitely helped me to discover a possible future career which would be both rewarding and great fun.
I would strongly recommend an internship with Handelsbanken. The culture within the bank is unrivalled, and because the branches are small, people are able to commit more time to you and get to know you better. Because the AMS (Account Manager Support) role is so varied, it also gives a wider overview of areas that are covered, and so helps to give a better idea about what specific area you are most interested in.
I really enjoyed my placement with Handelsbanken! I learnt a lot about both myself and the financial sector, I am going to pursue a financial career as a result. The branch staff will attempt to include you as much as they can, but as an intern you're restricted, in terms of what you can do. Although, this is no fault of the company, they have guidelines from external organisations that they must comply with.
It was a great learning experience for anyone who has an interest in banking or finance. The internship is very hands on and active that students part taking have a real sense of what working truly is about and whether it is something they would like to do or not. It is also a chance to build on one’s character as you learn about your strengths and weaknesses each passing day. No day was the same therefore I was able to learn something new about the bank, branch and people each day
