I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Mace and although the work experience was virtual, it massively exceeded my expectations. It provided a comprehensive insight into the operations of the sustainability team and also that of Mace, as a business, within the construction sector. I feel I have benefited greatly from this experience and gained considerable knowledge about the industry. My confidence has also grown to support my future applications for career opportunities.
The insight week was incredibly valuable. I learnt so much about Mace Ltd and the construction industry. As well as hearing from lots of Mace employees about a range of projects they are working in and their career paths, we had a virtual tour of a big construction site and we also had workshops on assessment centres and CV writing. The week solidified my desire to pursue a career in construction management and I hope to be able to get onto the apprenticeship scheme at Mace Ltd.
I extremely enjoyed the insight week, as it was a great way for me to see the variety of pathways that Mace offers, as well as how broad the construction sector is. It helped me make the correct choices when planning for the future, as well as what each type of job entails. It was interesting to look into how they plan, consult and build their projects, for example the Shard, or Tottenham Hotspurs Stadium, which both acted as a testament of Mace's high quality projects, but also explains why Mace is a very successful company.
The Virtual Insight Week has helped enhance my understanding of the construction industry as a whole. Different employees explaining their role within the company and industry was particularly useful as I am unsure on what route to take after graduating. The virtual site tour was particularly enjoyable because I was able to apply the knowledge which I had gained in my first year of university. Overall, the week has increased my motivation and reinforced my desire to work in the construction industry.
Considering the current circumstances, Sara and Georgia at Mace provided a very beneficial and insightful experience. This included: inviting several employees at Mace to inform us of their roles and responsibilities; a virtual site tour; and even interview and CV skills.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Careers in Construction week because it gave me an insight into all the different roles that are involved in completing a project. I also loved how interactive the sessions were during the week when carrying out group activities, listening to the employees talk about their experiences working at Mace and learning about the construction industry as a whole.
I found the Mace Insight week extremely enjoyable. The 4 days were all very varied and were packed full of useful information. Throughout the week a number of different methods were used to present information. This included presentations, workshops, site visits and group activities all of which were very detailed and easy to engage with.
My team works collaboratively which allowed me to learn how the project develops outside of my role. Mace's company values and work environment are really inviting to minorities within the construction industry. I was impressed with the team who organised my placement and the inductions received. We received talks from new starters within mace who shared their experiences so far.
I have really enjoyed my time at Mace. I worked on two really interesting projects; one being high profile. The projects were at opposite end of the project life cycle so I gained a lot of knowledge about the life cycle and the different aspects of my role. I was encouraged to go on training days, site tours and social evets to network within the wider company.
Going into this placement I had never been on a live construction site before, so I did not know what to expect. This has been an amazing first experience, the site is phenomenal in size, and it is a multi-million project filled with many workers, managers and trades with a wealth of experience. It was an honour to have some knowledge imparted on me from walks and talks and live works. The fact that I came to meet the project in its finishing stages was also a unique experience, I have seen so much progress in construction from the first week that I came. Every aspect of this placement has been amazing.
This internship has been enjoyable. I have learnt a lot more than I thought I would and the exposure and opportunities available have been great. Even not coming from a non construction related degree, I always felt comfortable and everyone was friendly and willing enough to ask questions to. Also, the work was a mixture of tasks such as minutes and doing presentations and reports
It was great to be apart of Mace and network with lots of people. It gave an insight to what it would be like being a quantity surveyor there if I joined on the graduate scheme. There were lots of opportunities to meet people and understand how the processes work whilst having time to yourself to undertake further learning from jnfomace.
Overall I really enjoyed my placement with Mace. I was given lots of opportunity and responsibility, I was able to sit and partake in many meetings which provided me with a significant learning experience. There were a number of days where I was left with very little work to do however this was the exception.
