Overall it was an enjoyable experience, however for the first couple of weeks the work load was a bit slow thus was not the most interesting internship at the beginning. But once I had asked for more work and the pace of work picked up I enjoyed my internship a great deal more. The general atmosphere is very friendly and if I had any problems as a new starter anyone was happy to point me in the right direction.
Overall, I had a really good time. The team in which I was placed welcomed me from the very start. The work I was given was fairly varied and I was given good responsibilities, although some tasks were slightly menial. The company has a good, friendly working atmosphere, which I really enjoyed.
I did enjoy my placement a great deal. The work was very interesting and the work atmosphere was pleasant. The project I was given was tailored to my interests and was reasonably challenging. The work I have done will also be used after I leave, so I also feel like I have made a worthwhile contribution.
I very much enjoyed the placement, this was due to a few factors. Firstly; the work that i was doing had a direct client which was clear and appreciated giving me clear direction. Secondly; the DSTL environment is very relaxed and informal in the office for normal day to day work, and then appropriate for when it is needed. Thirdly; i was given a varied placement giving me many different topics to work on which was enjoyable
I really enjoyed my DSTL summer placement. The atmosphere was relaxed, the work was very interesting, when there was some to do, and there was a good balance between desk work and hands on manufacturing work. There was lots to learn and it will definitely benefit me in future. Well worth it.
On the whole it was a useful experience. I applied knowledge I had learnt in University to my work and gaining security clearance was also useful regardless of where I go as a graduate. I would perhaps have liked a bit more variety to my work - I only worked on one major project during my summer placement. My team were great and flexi time was also very handy.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement. I built up a lot of new skills and experiencednew things rather than being stuck in a lab all day. The flexitime scheme in particular lets you manage your own time to something that suits you (although you are told not to take the ****).
I enjoyed multiple aspects, including the great flexibilty of working hours with the flexi time system, the willingness of people to help with your work and go out of their way to help, the firendliness, the knowlegde and feeling that your work may have a significant impact or utility somewhere. I also enjoyed being able to develop skills in which I have a interest but are not taught in my degree, i.e programming. The exiting and state of the art equipment was also rewarding to use. My only criticism is inherent in the security of the site, which limits the work it is possible to carry out on computers, using the internet e.g.
I greatly enjoyed working at Dstl these past 3 months, I have been given interesting work to do that I know other employers will be using once I leave. Due to the nature of the work Dstl does, what you get tasked to do here will most likely be something that you would not get to do / experience at other companies.
As the year is now almost over I can look back and say that I did learn a lot during the placement and we did get to see some interesting things that I may never have been able to see before. However a lot of time was also spent not actually learning anything and simply waiting for work to be given to us. Therefore although it was not "A Struggle" it is far from "Best Job Ever".
I enjoyed the internship. My first day was well planned and i revieved all of the nessasary IT equipment and trainging. All of the members of my team were very nice and welcoming. I started a job on my second day which i worked on for the majority of the placement. My job manager is very good. He always has time to discuss and explain things to me and is always helpfull.
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at DSTL. It was a great experience of learning about science and technology, global affairs and the working life. The majority of people I came into contact with were friendly and the work I was involved in was very engaging. I would definitely consider applying for a position at the company in the future.
There's lots of interesting work going on; and it was interesting to get an insight into various research areas within defence and be privy to things the wider public don't get to see. However, my main problem was that for the majority of the time I simply wasn't busy enough. I ended up working with another team for 3 months - I went on a couple of trials, which I really enjoyed, and felt I was able to contribute. It's a good place to work - provided you have work to do.
