My role as an engineer was to write code to fix bugs or add a new functionality. On an implementation team you deal with extending the system based on what the customer requires. In dev you fix any bugs that are found and add new system functionality that everyone can use. One a day-to-day basis I normally use SQL, C# and sometimes Oracle.
Most of my days are spent either fixing bugs with a customers solution or implementing new functionality to meet given customer requirements. I use SQL and C# on a daily basis and often work with others from the company to find a solution. I have lots of communication with the customers as they report the issues and give us the requirements.
Day to day I spent most of the time using SQL and C# to product modules and customer-specific reports and tasks. Time is also spent speaking with customers, answering queries and resolving issues they may have. I also code review work and complete pull requests, as well as testing any changes I've made.
I had a really fun and interesting year working for Lighthouse. It was really nice to take the skills and knowledge that I've acquired from my degree so far and apply them to actual work. Everyone at the company is friendly and happy to help and the whole office environment is really enjoyable. During my year working there I got to complete a whole variety of different tasks and it never felt like I was just doing the same task over and over, it really helped me learn a lot.
I've thoroughly enjoyed the whole year. I've gained invaluable experience from my year here, and have felt supported throughout it's entirety. I've been given enough responsibility to allow me to further my skills, with the support to help me through when I've needed it. The training program really helped with boosting my confidence at the beginning, I was unsure if university had prepared me well enough for the workplace, but everything you need to know is covered.
I enjoyed my placement very much, it offered me a variety of challenges and tasks, helped me develop a lot of technical skills. The environment is very friendly and very welcoming, with an eagerness to help and an encouragement to ask questions, ask for help when we're stuck. It offered many great perks, like paid lunch, chocolate fridge and plenty of social events. Everyone I've interacted with and I've met were friendly to me and nice.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at Lighthouse and I would definitely recommend it. The combination of a friendly atmosphere, interesting work, and the numerous perks, such as, lunch provided, free parking and social events throughout the year make waking up and coming to work in the morning very easy.
My placement at Lighthouse Systems has been a fulfilling and rewarding experience. I was trained for the Job alongside Graduates and got to experience a proper software role. This placement has allowed me to develop my skills and grow as person. It has been a great experience applying the knowledge I have gained during University. I often feel that I have learnt far more during this year than I did during my two years of University so far.
I always wanted to work in a company where no two days are the same and a place where I get an exposure to all aspects of Software Development. Lighthouse Systems was my perfect choice as I got a chance to experience the entire Software Development Life Cycle alongside a team of senior developers; which made work more exciting and enjoyable.
Having been employed at several companies over the years, I can honestly say Lighthouse is the best place I have ever worked at. Everyone here is friendly, relaxed and always willing to help. There is always plenty to keep you busy, but having fun is also high on the agenda. I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year and would recommend working here to anyone.
The friendly atmosphere and support throughout the placement made it very enjoyable. From the start I was welcomed by all and quickly felt comfortable in the environment and role. There are times when work piles up, but is always manageable within the team.
Working at Lighthouse has brought so much enthusiasm into my placement year, I have had the opportunity to learn and develop new skills within IT and the manufacturing sector. The level of growth I have seen in myself over the past year has been down to the amount of effort Lighthouse put into making me excel all expectations set by myself. I have had the opportunity to work with some high respected customers within the manufacturing sector, whilst building relationships with key figures in those businesses.
I very much enjoyed my Placement Year at Lighthouse. I have learnt a lot about different Companies and their processes, and even had the opportunity to visit 2 customers to see how they use the software first hand. I learnt a wide variety of skills which will help me in my future, and I would love to return when I finish University.
