All summer interns work on a project, mine was interesting and I had a lot of choice in the direction it would take. In many cases interns' work will be used to guide future work by economists in the bank so it is satisfying to know your work is important.

The work I was given was really interesting, and I had the opportunity to attend / watch a lot of high profile meetings / events, e.g. the pre-MPC meetings where staff present to the Monetary Policy Committee; I was also able to shadow many of the Bank's operations in the Sterling money markets, e.g. purchasing gilts for quantitative easing.
I had a great summer at the Bank of England, met a lot of really nice people and had some great work experience. My team was really friendly and keen for me to get as much as possible out of the experience. It also has a great working culture – it was nice to have an office gym. The only reason I put 9 instead of 10 is that I don't think I would want to go into the area in which I worked (HR), but it was good to have the chance to try it.

Overall, the internship gave a really good insight into the responsibilities of the Bank. I was allowed to have hands on experience as an employee from day one as I attended meetings, seminars and produce work that the team used directly.
The insight day proved very useful in terms of making my mind up as to whether I wanted to undertake an intership or placement year with the Bank of England. It gave a good experience of the values and culture that underly the Bank and which helped in my decision as to whether I would be a good fit for the institution.
The people working at the Bank of England are all extremely helpful and willing to give you advice regarding their roles within the Bank. However in my experience my manager wasn't too strict meaning I was able to work fairly flexible hours as long as I completed the tasks required of me. I was given roles of responsibility fairly early and enjoyed the fact that my work had real world implications on companies/businesses being supervised. This ensured my job satisfaction was very high.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Bank. The people have been extremely friendly and helpful and my role has been very interesting and exciting as it is at the heart of the financial markets and I can see the effects of my work in the news every day. The work that I was given was very interesting and I was able to use my knowledge and express my opinions through the work that I did.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, got the chance to see and speak to many new people in different departments of the Bank, both inside and outside of work. The work provided a challenge yet it was enjoyable working through any issues.
