Its such a valuable experience working for such a reputable company and seeing how a business works on an international level. As well as gaining certificated training such as excel, you gain experience with working alongside many other business professionals
I doubt there are many placements that will give a better experience of what it is like to work for a truly global company. The perks of the job are fantastic and the fact there are plenty of other placement students means that there is also a great social side to the placement.
My work placement at Volkswagen Group UK was an enjoyable year and a fascinating insight into the automotive industry. I gained a tremendous amount of experience which will be invaluable when applying for graduate schemes. Volkswagen Group UK was a great company to work for as my role was varied which kept the year interesting and stimulating.
I really enjoyed my placement at Volkswagen Group, I was given a huge amount of responsibility and was given the chance to get involved with a variety of different projects. The benefits were great as well, two brand new company cars and the opportunity to go on many exciting events.
Overall, my placement year at the Volkswagen Group has been the ideal place for me to start my career. I have thoroughly enjoyed working for the company and have learnt so many new skills. The projects, tasks and general experiences that I have been fortunate enough to get involved in within the past year will help me not only in my future career, but also my final year at university.
From day 1 I was immersed in to in-flight business projects that had an associated business case and budget. The level of responsibility given to the undergraduates, far exceeded my expectation and after the first couple of months had passed, I felt like a permanent member of staff. The time has absolutely flown by, simply because I have enjoyed it that much - I don't want to leave!
Generally, I enjoyed my placement a lot. It contained an interesting mix of doing a job and exploring the wider processes of the business. For example, I was able to visit the Customer Service Centre in Leeds, several retailers around the country and a training course abroad - all showing different perspectives of the business with various stakeholders. The culture within the group is friendly, learner-friendly and attempts to provide a positive work-life balance.
The work I was given to do was challenging and rewarding. It initially felt overwhelming, but as I grew into the role I began to understand the context of the work I was doing and gather a clearer idea of the processes required to complete tasks. When reflecting on my placement year, I am immensely proud of the work I have completed, having been given deliverables I had never expected to be trusted with. I have learnt how to operate new programmes & systems and gained a tremendous insight into the automotive industry.
I struggle to think of ways I could have improved my year's experience at Volkswagen Group UK. I was lucky enough to get involved in a countless number of activities, spanning from cross department projects to representing Volkswagen UK during the launch of the new Tiguan in Portugal - giving me the confidence to make the absolute most out of every opportunity - now and in future roles.
For me this year has been my best university experience so far. By being able to apply what I have learnt in the real world has been priceless. The experience has by no way been a walk in the park, but I have demonstrated and gained a reputation for being a hard worker that takes pride in their work. I don't really want to go back to studying as I enjoy the feeling of full time work so much now.
