I learnt so much from this internship, about myself and my skillset, but also about the world of investment banking and financial services. It was a good length and really allowed me to understand if this would be the right role and company for me. I definitely appreciated the experience.
Pros: Great work environment. Very friendly and respectful culture. Relatively flat structure and could easily network with senior mangers. Colleagues are very helpful. Interns are quite bright. Cons: Apart from the main desk projects, we need to deal with many side projects too, such as intern presentations. It is good in a way but taking us too much time. Overall, the internship experience is very good, I learn a lot for sure. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed my experience at Nomura. For the work itself, I was given a lot of tasks, on different sectors. I was able to work on 2 live deals as well as a dozen of deal originations. For the team, I met great people, everybody was kind to me
I really enjoyed my summer internship at Nomura. The internship scheme as a whole was very well organised with insightful overview sessions from all the divisions within Finance. I particularly loved working in Treasury. I loved the wide variety of work and responsibilities I had. My team were very kind, supportive and approachable.
I had a wonderful time getting to know different people across the bank, as well as interacting with all the interns along the summer. I have had the chance to discover and embrace a new product in the Investment Banking division, thanks to great guidance from my junior and senior colleagues, as well as unique trust placed into my work.
I think this was a wonderful experience overall. Nomura is a great company to work for, with a great work environment and people always ready to give advises and to teach you about the job. Of course you have to work hard, but you are rewarded by a great experience and by learning a lot
What I enjoyed about my internship: Everyone was very friendly and there is a collaborative atmosphere where you are encouraged to ask questions and approach people so you really felt part of a team that was supportive of each other rather than everyone trying to backstab each other to get ahead. Training program was very comprehensive and very well structured. There were good resources and good teaching What I did not enjoy: Due to a quiet period I was not given enough work to do by my team so I was left idle for significant periods, having to create work for myself. There was not enough on the job training as people were too busy with their own work to train you to do something for the first time and would instead prefer to do it themselves leaving you with no work and no training.
Overall the internship was a brilliantly organised, well structured and provided a great insight into my department and its role in the wider business. The most enjoyable aspects for me were both the amount I learned in such a short space of time, and the experience of fitting really well into a team - I didn't want to go back to university by the end.
I really enjoyed my time at Nomura, it has been such a big learning curve. Everyone here has been extremely approachable and supportive, they want you to ask questions and learn. The culture here is amazing, everyone feels included as part of the family no matter what background. Overall, I would definitely recommend.
The internship scheme is well thought out, Nomura treat their interns no different to how they treat their staff. From their mentoring system to their regular talks/ Charity events / intern socials the experience was exceptional. The level of exposure within 10 weeks of working at the company is so valuable. Nomura invest a lot in their interns.
