I enjoyed the majority of the internship - especially getting to work on a wide variety of projects and types of work (from making pitch books, to modelling on excel, conducting research and more). However, negatives were some long periods of boring, mindless work, and constantly being expected to work late into the night regardless of how important or urgent the work was.
Before coming to the firm I heard very positive reviews about the internship programme and, therefore, had very high expectations. However, my experience at the firm has even surpassed those expectations. I was staffed on live transactions and was given every opportunity to contribute - I really felt like I was adding value and team acknowledged my contribution. Work environment was great and my team members were willing to spend time to share their knowledge about the job and our sector. I was very impressed with the culture of trust and responsibilities given to junior staff. Team leader ensured that during my internship I got exposure to the entire spectrum of industry sub-sectors and my responsibilities vary so I get a better feel of what this sector and job entails. Feedback sessions were also very helpful giving us chance to improve and take a full advantage of our time at the firm.
I really enjoyed the summer internship. Firstly, the nature of the work carried out was very interesting, ranging from commercial/marketing tasks to technical/valuation exercices. It really is up to you to steer the work you are doing towards your preferences. Personally I was very interested in getting technical exposure, and this was very welcomed and encouraged by the team through giving me indicative valuation scenarios to play around with, along with the implied exercices such as sensitivity analyses and ratio calculations. Secondly, I got along well with many members of the team, which made the whole experience enjoyable, regardless of the difficulty and sometimes challenging working hours.
The Insight Programme was a fantastic introduction to Rothschild and the banking industry. Each day was very well organised, allowing us to get the most out of the week. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, and always happy to talk to us and answer our questions
It did exactly what I expected an insight week to do. It gave me a first hand experience into the GFA area, and although I learned that GFA wasn't for me, a large number of people became really enthusiastic about the area and Rothschild itself. I expected it to be a cut throat experience but I very much enjoyed my experience and met some really nice people during the week.
Incredible experience. The insight really allowed me to obtain a complete overview of how the Global Financial Advisory division works. From work shadowing in ECM and M&A to a group project where we had to pitch an M&A deal to a number of directors, I really fell like this experience allowed me to learn a lot. Furthermore, Rothschild has a fantastic culture, everyone was always looking forward to help and guide us, which is crucial for interns in order to learn and progress.
