Even though the majority of the internship was virtual, it exceeded all my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed my time during the internship and I was sad for it to end. Due to Covid-19, the internship was shorter than normal and interns took a significant pay cut (to the living wage). Whilst this was slightly demoralising initially, the work was engaging and the office culture was relaxed, which I enjoyed. A combination of the intern group I was working with, my intern trainer and the project made the whole internship very special.
I really enjoyed my remote internship with Softwire, and it seemed like they prioritised my enjoyment of the 8 weeks I had with them. They not only provided a good structure for work from the start, they also provided a solid platform on which to meet other interns and current staff members socially. If I did have any complaints about how it was going I felt I could have brought them up either with my intern trainer or my line manager.
On the whole I enjoyed my placement very much. While the project I worked on was quite different than what I had in mind I enjoyed learning new skills and was given opportunities to work on a wide range of tasks. At a few times the work became slightly unvarying/uninteresting though most of the time I had the choice to work on tasks which I found interesting. I also very much enjoyed the opportunity to get involved in the company community and culture, despite the remote nature of the internship
I really enjoyed my internship! I did mine during the 2020 lockdown, so it was a fair bit out of the ordinary, being completely remote. Despite this, I had a good time. The work we did was very enjoyable, and was part of a proper project, which I liked as it meant it really felt like we were doing useful work. There were also a variety of events put on (even remotely), which were a lot of fun.
I really enjoyed the internship and Softwire made lots of effort to ensure that was the case, despite the remote nature. As a welcome event they would normally take the interns to the pub after their first day, so instead did a virtual event on discord with all of the interns and some regular employees. There was also a very relaxed atmosphere about everything which made it a much nice place to work, even if just remotely.
I enjoyed my internship to a significant extent. We had the opportunity to learn a variety of new technologies, especially for the project our team were working on. The most important part for me, was learning to communicate and collaborate with other engineers on a non-trivial project. The only improvement would perhaps be to let us know what the internship would entail (in more detail) in advance, however, this was likely only a problem due to COVID.
I really enjoyed my time at Softwire. The people are super nice, and put real effort into making you feel welcome and relaxed. The culture of the company is one of trust and valuing people, which is really refreshing to see. The project I worked on was challenging but a great deal of fun, and the weeks sped by.
The internship was really fun! Softwire have a good working environment. There is very little pressure. I was always given enough time and help to finish my work. They also provided very interesting work. I was in a team where we built a game. It was a surprisingly creative process, and also very logical.
