I really enjoyed the insight and felt that a wide variety of activities were planned in order to keep us stimulated over the two days. I particularly enjoyed the alternative dispute workshop, where we worked in teams to negotiate a mock settlement. From this I greatly increased my understanding of the law and got to know my fellow students on the insight scheme better.
The Herbert Smith Freehills first year workshop was extremely valuable in terms of practical experience and theory. I found the setup of the scheme to be really structured and done in such a way to enhance our experience. For example the first day we were given talks about the firm and engaged in a negotiation exercise, whereas the second day had a stronger emphasis on actually experiencing life as a trainee firsthand.
The first year workshop was such a great event; really well-organised with a variety of activities and lots of opportunities for insight into the firm and to network with current employees. All trainees were more than willing to chat to everyone and discuss their experiences and any tips and advice for applications and pursuing a legal career.
Known for its strength in dispute resolution and litigation, HSF highlighted its double-engine model by showcasing its strong corporate and dispute teams. It was extremely useful for me to learn about the firm in such depth and the people I met throughout the programme were all exceptionally nice. Both practical skills and personal skills were acquired.
I enjoyed the insight day as it provided an in depth view into not only the operations of the firm, but also the various different sectors that the firm specialises in, such as commercial law and dispute resolutions. This insight day was also well planned and stayed on schedule. The location was also easy to find.
I thought the insight was particularly helpful, in comparison to some other schemes that I had previously attended as well. There was a clear effort to showcase all aspects of the firm and great opportunities to meet the firm's people through the various events. Especially enjoyable for me was the advocacy group presentation - as the area and group that I am most interested in, it was great to hear specifics about the practice from a Senior Associate.
The insight scheme lasts 2 days, which allows for a more in-depth view of Herbert Smith Freehills. Though there are talks, a large amount of time is dedicated to interactive workshops and activities. The networking drinks and food on day one also provide an opportunity to learn about the firm’s culture.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Herbert Smith Freehills for the period of two weeks which I was there. It was interesting to see the variety of work which is conducted across the firm and also to have the ability to learn from lawyers who are experts in their field. Applying their knowledge to my given tasks was satisfying.
I really enjoyed the scheme; it was hard work at times but there were lots of social events, and as it was in the lead up to Christmas there were lots of office parties / drinks. Everyone was really friendly and made us feel welcome. Overall, it was definitely enjoyable.
I really enjoyed my vacation scheme at Herbert Smith Freehills. The scheme was very well organised, with several departmental presentations and social events. This gave us the opportunity to really get involved and learn about the work the firm do. I found it a very rewarding experience to meet lots of people and to get great feedback.
