Placement (10 Months+)

What are you studying?

I'm currently studying for a degree in Aerospace Engineering at Kingston University, London.

Which department are you working in at NATS?

Every year, NATS offers between 10 and 20 students industrial placements and I was lucky enough to get one in the Air Traffic Management Solutions Department.

How are you finding your placement?

It's been great getting an insight to what the Department does and what NATS does as a company - my twelve months is flying by.

What projects are you involved in?

The key project I've been involved with so far is iTEC. iTEC is a joint collaboration between three European air navigation service providers: AENA from Spain, DFS from Germany and NATS, working together to deliver a new flight data processing system.

I was asked to research and develop my knowledge of iTEC and then create a website on our Intranet about it. The main purpose of the website is to raise understanding about iTEC within the company and to provide up to date information about the project for the NATS iTEC team.

Would you recommend NATS as a placement to other students?

If you’re on a degree course involving a sandwich year, then I'd recommend you take a look at the industrial placements at NATS. They provide a great opportunity to gain real world experience in an interesting area of aviation.
