About

I study BA Business at Nottingham Trent University. I joined SAP’s Placement Programme as a Presales Associate. The role was very varied and involved producing creative content, customer demonstrations, customer engagement experiences and much more.

Why did you choose to work in your industry?

Everything in life is increasingly becoming technology focused. I wanted to have more of an understanding of the software industry and how the solutions are used to run day- to-day processes.

What is your top tip for working in this industry?

Innovation and creativity are key! No idea is too small, they all have potential. Never be hesitant to share your ideas with your team, and put yourself forward to bring an idea to life.

What differentiates your industry from others?

There is no industry that isn’t touched by technology. This meant I could have exposure to all different aspects of business processes and understand what each industry needs to perform at its best.

Which personality traits or skills aid success in your industry?

Authenticity - Presales is a customer-facing role and therefore it is so important to be genuine. This will enable you to have open and honest conversations, allowing you to better understand the needs and wants of the customer.

Describe the workload and responsibility given to students in your industry.

One of the best things about a placement with SAP is that you are treated like a full- time employee. You have a significant role within the team with real tasks and responsibilities, and leave having learnt a great deal.

What do you most enjoy about your industry?

Being in the Presales role I had the opportunity to deliver presentations to customers, which I thoroughly enjoyed. This developed my presentation and communication skills, which I can apply in my career going forward.

What advice would you give to others considering a career in your industry?

Go for it, you’ll never look back! Technology is not just about coding and computer software. There is a role for everyone!
