Tell us about your placement

Whilst studying for a MEng in Mechanical engineering at the University of Bath I was given the opportunity of taking an additional year long internship after my second year and I was lucky enough to be placed with Siemens Magnet Technology. When applying for a placement I wanted a company that would give me a good insight into what a career in engineering would involve and challenge me with projects that were both interesting and useful to the company. Siemens has completely matched this specification!

Since joining in the summer of 2012, I have been involved in a number of projects. They have been quite varied, from designing components for new magnets, to testing on existing magnets and making modifications when necessary. All have been very enjoyable and it has been good to use the knowledge I have gained from university. I have been given a lot of responsibility but also supported by the permanent members of staff which has aided further learning. I would definitely recommend a placement with Siemens and hope to return when I have graduated.
