Tell us about your placement at CGI

Starting even from when I was a small child, I have always been fascinated by computers. Windows 95 was my first introduction into the world, and even then I was still playing around with DOS! Fast forward through all of my education, I completed a Computing course a college which further ignited my passion. This propelled me onto a BSc Computer Science course at the University of Plymouth. I took a year out of my degree to do an Industrial Placement year at CGI (then known as Logica) to check if I was on the right career path.

This year out most certainly answered that I was on the correct path, as I was getting involved in all sorts of different activities from development, to database administration through to regular client interaction. The project was exciting as I know that it’s making a huge impact every single day, across the whole of Europe.

I returned to university knowing that I wanted to continue as a DevOps professional, so finished up my degree and returned to CGI to a completely different project, but continuing on my DevOps path. I’ve started leading a team and I am making my way through the professional world as a developer.

I’m now trying to give back, by being a Graduate Representative, making sure my fellow young professionals get their voice heard within our company. I also have the privilege of regularly meeting young hopeful candidates when I interview them during our assessment centres – so I hopefully might see you sometime soon…
