At number 5 we have Elton John – “Step Into Christmas” 1973

Released in 1973 and only reached number 24 in the UK Single Chart, maybe it was the sunglasses holding him back?

The number 4 spot is claimed by East 17 – “Stay Another Day” 1994

Furry coats, funky haircuts and their only UK Number 1!

In at number 3 we have Jona Lewie with “Stop The Cavalry” 1982

It was never intended to be a Christmas song, but an anti-war song! It reached number 3 in the UK due to two John Lennon songs topping the charts.

Just pipped to the number 1 spot was Chris Rea “Driving Home For Christmas” 1988

“Top to toe in tailbacks, Oh, I got red lights on the run” Definitely talking about the M25.

And of course there can only be 1 true winner The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl “Fairytale Of New York” 1987.
