The Role
- Role Description
Provide feedback on products throughout their development cycle, test games to locate and report any defects and ensure these issues are fully resolved in a timely manner.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I learnt a lot about working in the games industry at Jagex and had a lot of fun doing it. The company, its people and the perks were all a great experience - the company jollies are amazing.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Everyone is treated equally at Jagex, I felt my ideas and opinions were always listened to and taken on board. The strong team working environment means everyone really pulls together to get the job done.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
The managers are one of the best things about Jagex, you are treated as an equal and they always make time for you. Tell your manager about your goals and targets and they will do their best to get you to where you want to be.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
I found that I was never bored, there are always things that you can do - you are no way restricted to working on one for your time here, there are many extra roles that will mean you are never left doing nothing.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I was given a lot of responsibility at Jagex, I had several roles which were very important where I was left mostly unsupervised. Sometimes it seemed that our team made up of mainly students were sometimes 'running the show'.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Jagex has taught me a lot about working in the Games Industry and I feel I can take the skills I have learnt here to any career. Although my degree is about the development side of games and this placement primarily customer support, Jagex run a lot of seminars about various things which will suite any background.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Exactly what I imagined the game industry to be like and better. Professionally relaxed.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Overall the Scheme has been fairly well organized, opportunities are abound for all the placements and specific placement scheme sessions are set up.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Financial Bonus
- Company Parties/Events
- Staff Sales/Staff Shop
- Above 25 days holiday
- Healthcare/Dental
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
It was great to work with with so many students from all over the country - sometimes further afield - that were like minded. There is a strong social scene at jagex.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Cambridge is quite expensive place to live, although as students there are always deals you can jump on.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Not as varied as some of the bigger cities around the UK but entertaining none the less - Im more into the rock/metal scene, there are only a few places that have these nights.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Best year of my life - learnt so much and had fun doing it, cannot recommend it enough.
