    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the Summer Scheme at Savills. As a non-cognate graduate, the internship helped develop my knowledge and understanding of working at a large real estate firm. I gained an enormous understanding of the day to day life of a graduate in the London Savills team.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt the work I was doing was valued by the team. I felt that I was treated like any other graduate in the team from day one. I was often copied in on emails to clients with work I had carried out, which made me feel that the work I was doing was valuable and worthwhile.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given clear instructions on work I was to complete and I was able to ask questions at any point if anything was not clear. The directors in my team took time to explain things or answer questions despite being exceptionally busy themselves.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied. I would say comfortably busy the majority of the time, but never felt stretched. In quieter times, I used the time to meet with other graduates in the business to develop my understanding of the business.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A reasonable amount. As I said in a previous question, the work I was doing was a valuable contribution to client projects.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills I have gained will help me in my degree going forward.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was good. I started the internship during late summer when a lot of people were out of the office on holiday so it felt quieter than perhaps it does at other points in the year. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming however. People seem to work very hard, but enjoy socialising in the evenings. There are opportunities to meet with other people in different teams which I really enjoyed.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well organised. The 4 week period includes departmental overviews from most departments in Savills which are extremely engaging and useful. These are organised throughout the internship so you have time away from your team at different points throughout the week. There was also a City tour that I attended that was extremely insightful. The fee earner lunch is a great opportunity to network with senior colleagues.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The departmental overviews are invaluable to the training and development whilst on the scheme. I feel you are paid well for an internship in London, although will not leave you much to spare if you are paying rent in London.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Excellent. The Summer Scheme has made me confident that I would greatly enjoy the Graduate Scheme at Savills and has made me look forward to the application process in the Autumn. The Graduate opportunities are fantastic and job satisfaction is really apparent in most people I got the chance to speak to.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns were very sociable amongst themselves and were keen to socialise at lunchtimes and in the evenings.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Usual for London. If you are careful with spending, you do not need to spend too much money around the area. There are all of the usual places to eat, drink and socialise for every budget.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was not exposed to many opportunities outside of work. There is a rounders match that is organised for current graduates and interns that was good fun and a great chance to socialise. There were no other opportunities that I was aware of during my time, although it is apparent that the graduates have a good social life outside of work.
