The Organisation

7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
★★★★★★★★☆☆

Rated 8/10

The atmosphere in the office is really positive and helpful. If I did something wrong my colleagues or manager explained to me. In a rush hour we help each other. If a client is unhappy for something we try to speak with him in a relaxing way, listening what he has to say.

8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
★★★★★★★★☆☆

Rated 8/10

They have trained me few time. I started in Juny 2007, then in September 2007 I was sent to Barcelona for a training week, where I learnt banking vocabulary, the importance of people. During that week I had a lot of people teaching me different things, how to control the nacional and international money, how to see if a check is good or not, the policy of Deutsche Bank, etc. On February I went to Alicante for two days training, this training was refered to my work position, chief operation manager, there was people from all around Alicante.

10. What were the perks on your work placement?
★★★★★★★★☆☆

Rated 8/10

  • Flexi Time
  • Financial Bonus
  • Company Parties/Events
  • Above 25 days holiday

11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
★★★★★★★★★

I am happy to see where I am now, in less that one year I am the operation manager of DB in one of the main office in Alicante. I would like to achieve higher level such a Vice-president, the only inconvenient now is German language and my short experience in comercial section of banking, however I am already in my task, I have German lesson few times a week and my comercial colleagues are helping me with this area.

Other Information

12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
★★★★★★★★★

Rated 9/10

At Deutsche Bank Alicante I am the only placement student, because the students are pick up by DB in summer time, for 3 month.

13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆

Rated 4/10

I am working out of my town, 80km evey day. I don't have bus, tube or train going there, then I use my own car, that means to expend a lot of money on fuel, more now with the price of the fuel. However around my office the bar and cafeterie give us the reduce prices for the items we buy.

14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆

Rated 5/10

I am working besides the beach and the police office. I am in my work area just during the day and it is really pleasent and wonderful.

15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
★★★★★★★☆☆☆

Rated 7/10

The activies such a languages courses or gym is not besides of the office, I must drive a bit to get there. If I want to have extra activities I must search for them.

In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?

It is really positive for your personal and private life.During February 2007 and May 2007 I was not sure to take a year placement, I was affraid to finish my degree in 2009 being 28 years old. I have one spanish degree which I finished in Juny 2006, in summer 2006 I did my intership for three month. Why to do a placement having one intership for three month at Deutsche Bank, one Spanish degree finished already and one English degree near to finish?? That question was in my mind all the time, finally I thought that to have all that plus one year experience in a company is the skills that every company search in its employees. Also I was affraid to come to Spain for my placement and afterwards would be really difficult to go back to London, because of the language. English is not my first language and to be one year out of London would be difficult for me to finish the degree one year after because of this placement. Today I am happy to be still here doing my placement and it has given me the option to be a permanent employee in Deutsche Bank team, next September I will sign the permanent employee as a Chief operation manager. The only condition is that I must be here one year more for the company gives me a year exemption between 2009-2010 then I would be able to go back to London in September 2009 to finish my degree. The placement time is giving me the opportunity to know if I have choosen in a wright way my future, how to behave in different situation with different people from different cultures, how to know more about myself, my capacity and my posibilities, how to understand better all the knowledge I got during my university period, etc. Its the time to compare the university and working life.
