Role Description

The main aspect of my placement was working within the compliance department. This involves putting together journals for invoices, working with data ensuring it gets to department leaders on-time and general ad-hoc queries that may arise. I have also been involved in working with the other students here at Cummins in organising fund-raising events for the office which have included a Charity Auction for Children in Need to a Bake sale and coffee morning for McMillan Cancer. Whilst working at Cummins I was also offered the opportunity to work within the other Departments including Travel, Payables and General Ledger, this gave me a fuller insight to finance and how the different departments rely on each other to ensure accurate information is sent out efficiently.

I feel that at the beginning of my placement I was busy learning all new processes etc but when I became more efficient at my job I felt that I had alot more spare time.

I feel that I have developed alot of my skills while working here, I was also put in training with the other members of the department. My mentor also explained alot of the work processes in great detail as most of them linked up to the theory I learnt at uni.

The office was quite quiet throughout the day but students did organise charity events to try and boost moral.

It was easily cheap living by Stockton, food etc was very reasonable for lunch.

The nightlife was ok in Stockton but there are better places around twenty mins taxi drive away,
