Job Title: PCA Industrial Placement Trainee - Finance
Overall Rated 8.1

The Role
- Role Description
My internship at PSA Peugeot Citroen was split into two 6 month placements.
For the first six months I was based in the Sales Accounts department. Here I had a set job role performing credit control functions for the PSA group. In particular, I was responsible for the credit control function for Citroen Motors Ireland.
My second six month placement was in the Commercial Finance & Organisation department for Peugeot Motor Company. Whilst working in this area, I was given the opportunity to work in all three areas of the department; Financial Control, Purchasing Control and Internal Audit. This allowed me to gain a good overview of the various functions of the department and the work involved in each.- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at PSA Peugeot Citroen. The scheme is very well organised and I strongly feel that the year has been highly valuable to me. I have learnt vital skills and gained some great experience in a very friendly and exciting organisation
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
From the beginning of my placement, I found that I was treated like any other employee rather than a placement student.
My colleagues in my departments were all very friendly and supportive, which made it extremely easy to settle in when I first started. I quickly became part of the team. - 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
In both departments I worked in, I found my line managers to be very friendly and supportive. They were always open to help with any questions or concerns I had, and encouraged me to get involved with as many different tasks as possible.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Due to the nature of the work I was involved in, my workload varied throughout the month. In my first placement I had specific month end responsibilities that had to be completed within the first three days of the month; at these times I was particularly busy. During quieter times of the month I had ongoing project based work that I was involved in
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
When starting my placement I was shocked by the amount of responsibility I was given. It made me feel that I was a valuable member of the team and that I was contributing significantly to the organisation.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I feel that I have gained valuable skills over my placement year. In particular I have significantly improved my organisation, presentation and excel skills. I feel that all of these will be particularly valuable when completing my final year degree and for my future career
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Both departments I worked in had a very friendly atmosphere whilst remaining professional
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
The placement scheme was very well organised from the start. It was well structured and ensured that you got the most out of the experience. Regular training sessions were also provided throughout the year
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
The company organised regular training sessions throughout the year. This focused on improved your key skills such as communication, presentation and influencing. I also had weekly French lessons throughout my placement year which were provided by the company
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Company Parties/Events
- Above 25 days holiday
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year experience at PSA Peugeot Citroen. I will definitely be applying for the Graduate Scheme
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
I had strong friendships with the other placement students and also made friendship groups with colleagues in my departments. I would regularly socialise out side of work hours with colleagues and fellow students
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I commuted from home to work each day so my cost of living was quite low. Socialising in Coventry however was not particularly expensive
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Nightlife in Coventry is pretty average; however you are very near to Birmingham City Centre where there are plenty of bars and clubs
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There were a few social events organised by the company over the year such as a Fun Day, quiz nights, Christmas party etc..
