    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship at Transport for London was quite enjoyable, there was often lots of different work to get involved in and see. From office work, to going to site.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It may depend on where you are placed, but for me I felt that my colleagues did value me quite a lot. They looked out for me and kept me involved.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I needed guidance or support I could ask my manager and he would help. You also get a 'sponsor' you is not in your department who you can ask for support or guidance.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Nearly all of the time I had the right amount of work to get on with, I was rarely to busy and never really bored as people always found work for me to get involved in

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a medium amount of resposabiltiy, although lots of the work requires you to be qualified and trained so it is hard to have much resposability at the beginning.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The experience at Transport for London will be invaluable, I will take the technical knowledge with me into my final year of university and the skills I learned will form the basis of my career.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • When in an office the atmosphere was like any other office really, quite quiet but can always have a chat. When working in a trian depot the atmosphere is more relaxed.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was generally well organised. You have a human resources representative who organises your placement who you can contact if you need. You then have your placement manager who looks after you day to day and a sponser who is another contact and your route into a full time job

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I personally didnt have much training, but the company did invest time in me, I had development meetings every month and if I ever had any problems they would be sorted.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Above 25 days holiday

    Travel loan

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • At the end of the placement, you have the oppotunity to get onto the graduate scheme, you must give a presentation on the placement and what impact it has had on you. If you do well they may give you a job

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes there was a reasonable social scene amongst the fellow placement students, we went out after work or trips a few times

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I cant comment on the cost of living as I lived at home with my parents, but all the placements are based in London so obviously it is quite expensive to live and socialise here.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Well it is in London so there is a great nightlife, depending on what you are looking for there is probably something for everyone.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • They were not many opportunities to get involved in outside of work that I saw. We had a few trips to see different areas of the business but they were all work related.
