It was a really interesting job, in a field that I had no previous experience whatsoever, which made me feel that I took a lot more from it as I was gaining knowledge whilst working under pressure.

Some times my managers would be out of the office, however they did give a lot of support and guidance and also gave me the opportunity to be pro-active in my work and work on projects which I could propose to give me greater experience, and also benefit the company.

Very very busy - however this is what made the year go so fast. The role deals with customers as well as B2B, so I would get lots of phone callsand enquiries as well as my daily tasks and projects.

5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

As my manager would sometimes be out for a week at a time, I was given a lot of responsibility to hold the fort whilst she was away. Throughout my year I was put in charge of specific divisions which were under the project we managed - this meant i would conduct meetings on my own which was a great experience.

6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

I have definitely taken a lot from my placement, which includes better time management, and organisation skills. I have learnt how to conduct meetings and how to manage a large network, as well as suppliers, etc.

The Organisation

7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

I worked with a lot of fun people. There were another half a dozen students in the department too, which was the perfect mix. It meant we could have lunch together and socialise outside of work, and it lightened the office up. The perm. staff were good fun too. Great Christmas party!

Rated 8/10

Very well organised - Bosch take about 15 UK students a year and have done so for many years. You are treated like staff, not a student, however there was flexibility of having time off for University Day School etc.

9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

I gained the experience of getting to go out to different locations in the UK on a couple of occasions. Bosch invest in staff training - and we were given a lot of induction meetings and information at the start of the placement.

I would definitely work at Bosch again, although I am not sure If I will. Once you are within the company they like to promote from within so there are a lot of opportunities - especially for working in different departments and different countries.

I made some really great friends at Bosch. As I said, there are many students there, and also many international students who were usually over for 3 month placements, so within the year I made lots of friends.

13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

I decided to live in London which was more expensive than living near work. I lived in Ealing which I loved, however it meant i wasnt able to save any of the money i earnt. Socialising in Uxbridge (Near Bosch) was quite expensive.. and central london even more so. So much fun though and an experience I will take with me!

14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?

Rated 8/10

They have a club called Liquid in Uxbridge which is where we went. It is OK in there.. as it is the only club you have to go there!! Lots of lovely bars though, some of them quite cheap.. so Uxbridge is a great place to go for afterwork drinks. Good restaurants too!!

15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

Rated 6/10

Bosch have sports teams, yoga etc. I didnt get involved in any of this. There were also opportunities to go on trips to theatre, buckingham palace, etc.

In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?

I would definitely recommend working at Bosch as the student atmosphere is amazing, and everyone else this year learnt so much - no one had a bad experience. There are numerous opportunities to get your teeth into what interests you.. and it was so great to work for such a huge brand name.
