    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship this year has been an exciting year with plenty of oppourtunties that came my way throughout the year. I have enjoyed each day coming into the working environment as everyday has been a challenge whether this was from customers from around the globe or sometimes, internally asking people for favours. The challenge was something I really liked though as it has given me great experience and a taste of what real work is like.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have felt highly valued by my colleagues this year as this has been a transitional period for the side of the business I have been in. I have helped people along the way with extra work that needs to be carried out to help make the process as smooth as possible. It is amazing how a simple thanks can make you feel appreciated for the work you have done and along the way I would say most have thanked me for individual pieces of work I have carried out making there workload easier.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had great support from my manager throughout the year even if he wasn't at my site ! I had a weekly catch up meeting where I could address any issues of what I had arose during the week and in return I would get feedback from him. He would also address any tasks he would like me to focus on until the next catch up. When I did get to see my manager I would have an hour one to one time. I also had a second manager who would be on site on a weekly basis and he would be there if any immediate issues needed to be addressed. Having a manager on another site was great as you got chance to see a different place of work and how it operates on a day to day basis, giving me more experience.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days I would be extremely busy and some days I would have barely anything to do and would be looking for work - each day was different. When I wasn't busy there would be work to find which would keep me going e.g. update process' - these days where rare. When I was extremely busy it was a great challenge managing my work load making sure all the tasks were completed on time,

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility throughout year managing my own projects which would help the business in the future. I also had weekly and monthly meetings which was shown to managers and directors of the business this is where I could improve the companies customer concerns and I would help make any issues that arose was quickly resolved.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office I worked in during the year was small but this was great as everyone knew each other and if you needed help you could find it pretty easily as you knew everyones job. This made the atmosphere a pleasure to work in as it was quiet but vibrant environment with characters making your day go by with a fair few laughs. The whole site though was larger than the office I worked in and generally found people across the site friendly and most where more than happy to help.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • This year there has been a bit of change on the management of the intern scheme at Eaton. With the Intern Manager coming back from maternity leave and the person who was looking after the scheme leaving left, this meant that in between of all the changes it left a big gap in the support that you may of needed. This wasn't anyones fault that this happened but after the manager came she looked after everyone the best she could trying to settle back in the business and in the end gave as much support as she could which I felt was enough for myself.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were training events which covered different topics from excel to development. These where separated into different days of the year and where split into 1 day to 2 day events. I enjoyed 2 day events as it was the only time the interns had a social gathering as you stayed overnight in a hotel. There was also online training my manager set out for me to complete so I could get on with my day to day tasks

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • From the site I was on we had a good social scene coming to the end of the placement with a few nights out and also going for lunch, this was the only oppourtunity to do this as we were all busy during the week. There was also a five a side league one of the interns joined on a Tuesday which was conveniently right next to the site - this was great as you was out of the working environment

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
