The Role
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I really enjoyed my placement as there was a variety of different tasks to occupy me and some of the perks were very good.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Most of my colleagues valued what I did, and I will be coming away with some very good references. I was awarded a very generous bonus as well which I think reflected their appreciation.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
On most occasions there was a good amount of support, but sometimes I was left alone to "sink or swim".
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Everyday up until the last couple of weeks of my placement was extremely busy. On some occasions I was required to work late in order to complete my work.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
During a specific event we managed I was given a lot of responsibility. This was continued throughout my placement.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I am taking away a lot of practical skills from my placement. I think they will assist me greatly in applying back u p for theories during my final year.
My newly developed skills will also be hugely helpful in further life.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The atmosphere varied a lot. On some days there was a good sense of the team working well together, but sometimes people coudl be very short with each other.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
On the whole the placement-scheme was well set up, however due to my appointed line manager being new to the office there was sometimes some confusion on his part as to what was required of him in this role.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
The company did not invest much financially in my personal training and development - the majority of training I received was internal.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- National Travel
- International Travel
- Financial Bonus
- Company Parties/Events
- Travel loan
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Although I possibly would not return to the department I did my placement in, the company is a fantastic organisation to be part of. I would definitely consider employment in a different area.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
There were only 2 of us on placement.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I worked in central london so everything in the area was very expensive.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Working in Central London meant that there was a lot to do in the evenings.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
It took me so long travellingto and from work as I was commuting, that by the time I got home from work I was too tired to do anything.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
This company was an amazing company to work for - everybody was really friendly and there was a real "family" feel.
Perks include dinners at hotels in and around London and overnight stays around the country in some very nice hotels.
