    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was really enjoyable, some tasks where quite challenging but I had a supportive and helpful team to keep me motivated and in the right direction.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues were great at spending time to ensure I learnt the processes involved thoroughly and that I completely understood my role. They helped me build my network across the bank for help for my project and for my own career progression.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had weekly one to one meetings with my manager to gain feedback on my progress and project work. This also allowed me to ask for support on any problems I had or issues to resolve.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was able to take on as many investigation cases as I wanted, in addition to my own research for my project. I also undertook numerous work shadowing and attended speaker sessions.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was assigned my own set of cases to reconcile and investigate. My project was independent work which I had to arrange meetings myself with other business departments.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed at the company are definitely useful, whether it's time management and prioritisation, different levels of communication, project planning and management, team management and team work etc.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in my office was probably one of just a few disadvantages of the internship. The offices were big with loads of teams working in each and nobody really knew each other well. I haven't met anybody in my office apart from my team.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Excellent attention to training, then the project worked well alongside my BAU tasks to increase my knowledge and expand my skills. The regular networking sessions helped me meet other interns and expand my knowledge of the other roles available in the bank.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Had many training sessions both at my desk and in meeting rooms with various people. Work shadowed other members of staff and also helped train other new recruits.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I got an offer for a graduate program within the company which I am very pleased about. The only disadvantage is that the graduate program needs to be in the same department and location as the internship which makes it a bit inflexible for such a big company.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Most of the interns lived together in accommodation organised by the company. This ensured that everybody knew each other and there was a lot of social life going on. There was a lot of bonding events at the beginning as well.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived at home so was able to save money on living expenses and food. The bus fare to work was expensive though.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Bournemouth is quite fun to go out a variety of bars and clubs. It was good to discover new places with the other interns.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Took part in a corporate social responsibility day at the Purbecks to help the local community.

    3/5
