The Role
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I had a great laugh in the office and out of it. I was always learning new things and getting more responsibility as time went on. Your given the chance to express yourself in your work and to make a difference. I have learnt so much this year that I can take forward into next year at uni and into my future career. I have enjoyed it so much that I will actually be sad to leave!
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
I was always invited to team meetings and asked of my opinions on decisions. I was included in every big decision and major update. Also because I was new they took the extra time to made sure I understood what was going on and how it effected, me the company and the outside market.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
I had regular goals and objectives set for me throughout my year. I was always given hints and tips about how I could improve. But the most important thing was that I was allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. I wasnt spoon fed. I made a couple of mistake which is usual and sort of expected. But then they helped me evaluate why I made the mistake and to move on from it!
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
This is down to you! If you want more work and to be busier then you can always ask for more work. Your company will never be short of work for you and would always appreciate you putting yourself out their to help out more. It does get recognised!
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I was given quite a few important tasks that once I was handed them I was solely responsible for. This gave me a level expertise in some areas where I knew morethan anyone else!
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I have improved in every area. GE Money put you on 3 compulsory training courses that are influencing skills, presentation skills and facilitation skills. These were all so helpful and I have used them so many times since I have been on them! I feel so much more confident about standing up infront of a crowd presenting. The skills you learn are very transferable and could be used in every business situation!
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Lighthearted and good fun...casual Fridays were always nice when you can wear your own clothes! Always a lot of banter and a lot of birthdays to eat cakes! Plenty of good social opportunities to play football to!
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Very well organised...from start to end...everything was very well sorted. Always someone you could ask if you had a question and the answer was very quick and reliable. Good interview for the job and constant monitoring of progression and development
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
If you wanted a course that was going to be beneficial to your time their then you could go on it! They would push you to do the bst you can during their time as it benefits them as well as yourself!
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Company Car
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Company Parties/Events
- Healthcare/Dental
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
The graduate programmes are very well known and very unique! They will give you the chance to experience different cultures and business! They have one that would suit everybody!
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Yes...we had regular socials that we set up ourselves! From Bowling, to a night out, comedy clubs and ice skating. We had lots of fun this year and so much to do in and around London! I will keep in touch with all of them
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Because you live just outside london its probably a bit more expensive than the average but you get a salary to reflect his and everything is affordable!
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Your just outside London so their is plenty clubs and pubs. Watford itself has a vibrant nightlife! Always worth a night out!
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Yes...their were quiz nights, volunteering events, football, dept socials! All sorts! Was brilliant!
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Take this opportunity as it will be very beneficial to you!
