The Role
I enjoyed my placement for the first 8 monthes when I was very busy. I also really enjoyed meeting the people I worked with. The office was very welcoming and organised, there are also several good perks to working in this office.
My Colleagues treated me as part of the team like a normal graduate
People managers and buddies are given to support staff. However people managers are sometimes hard to contact.
For the first 6/7 monthes I was on a very busy project and constantly busy. After this I was taken off the project and given administrative tasks to do until the end of my placement. I spent long periods of time sitting at my desk doing nothing and no work was given when I asked for it.
When busy I was given the same amount as a graduate
Some soft skills are transferable. I also learnt a small amount of programming languages which could help with my final degree. The overall Forensic skills I have learnt will probably not be used again as they are very job specific.
The Company
Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Also as everyone sits in the same area it was easy to approach people and get to know the team as a whole.
Very well organised at the start however less at the end. This was due to a lack of actual work needing done. There was also a problem with our holidays which was very poorly communicated to us and resulted in us loosing some of our final pay.
The firm allowed me to attend many internal training courses. There were also chances to learn during lunch and on the job training from other employees was strongly encouraged to increase your skill set.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
The Culture
Several events were organised. However these were poorly attended as they were outside of work hours and people were either too busy or out of the office and thus unable to attend. As a result these meetings became less and less frequent as time went on.
Belfast is a very inexpensive city. The rent was very cheap as was the nightlife. I found my salary to be more than enough and managed to save some for going back to university.
Nightlife excellent. Belfast is a growing city with new clubs/bars/restaurants opening all the time. It is very competitive and the people are all extremly friendly and approachable.
Lots of social events all the time. Including nights out, dinners, tea mornings, away days etc... The office has a dedicated people team that concentrates on well being and organising social events. This made it very easy to network and get to know our team.
