The Role
Greatly enjoyed it: the internship provided many ways to find out more about the Firm and its philosophy through various talks, network with people from various divisions and I was assigned a very interesting project.
I felt treated as an equal: the people I worked with were almost always available for a chat and we occasionally went out for drinks
I had weekly short meetings with my manager to discuss how my project was going and he was always glad to help me outside of those times.
There was always something to do, be it work on my project or Firm-organised talks/events; I never felt bored and often found myself staying late because I felt responsible for finishing something.
A large amount: I worked on a core part of the Firm's tech infrastructure and designed and implemented my project from scratch.
I learned a lot about the software development practices that are used in the industry, some aspects of information security and had a chance to work with various technologies (Scala/JVM internals/continuous integration) knowledge of which will definitely help me in my career.
The Company
Friendly and welcoming. My team went out to lunch together every Friday, which helped our overall relationship.
Fairly well: I think the balance between firm-organized events and actual work on the project was struck.
To a large extent: we had financial training at the beginning of our internship, the Firm invited a medical professional to speak to us about wellbeing and nutrition and there were many other talks by senior employees that, no doubt, cost them their time.

Company Parties/Events
Various senior employees of the Firm often underlined the importance of the Technology division to it in the new, more risk-averse, regulatory climate. This, together with my awareness of what projects were happening in the Firm's infrastructure, made me feel like the employment prospects within the Tech&Data division are very appealing.
The Culture
Fellow Technology interns often arranged to go out for drinks and we had a dinner together at the end of the internship.
Fairly large: Canary Wharf is an expensive place. However, it has a Tube connection, so I could get to any other part of London in less than half an hour.
Several bars and restaurants, but for actual nightclubs one would have to travel to central London.
I myself wasn't involved much, but was aware of things like football competitions (5-a-side) and various volunteering opportunities.
