    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight week at Morgan Stanley was very challenging but simply fun and rewarding. The programme allows me to have an overview and insight into all the divisions within the bank itself. By participating in this programme, it allows me to have a better understanding of all the operations and now I am certain that I would be keen to apply to their Front Office in the M&A divisions. The people here are all motivated and extremely driven. Like-minded people and peers and I extremely enjoyed my time here at Morgan Stanley.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The people here are all down-to-earth and very friendly. The staffs were very helpful and they clearly sacrificed their busy daily schedule to invest time and resources to train us. I felt that the company really invested in a lot of us, whether is it human capital nor accommodation and entertainment. Simply amazing !

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The support was just absolutely amazing. The staffs were all so willingly to help. The Drans, Will and Daryl were both extraordinary and regularly join us in our sessions. They are great fun people to work with. The HR team had also did a marvelous job in organising all the programmes for us for the entire week. The culture of investing in human capital and training is the best thing I like about the company.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt so much from the hands-on experience compared to what I learn at university for my Economics course in LSE. The experience helped me to learn to apply the knowledge I learnt in university and on the job itself, working hand-in-hand with one another. Teamwork spirit was another area that I have picked up in this programme. We have to work in teams to deliver the case studies and presentations and I couldn't have done it without them. A lot of leadership and job delegation required.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • There were times where we had to wait for the person-in-charged for some of our session but overall it was very well handled. The insight was very structured in a way we have received an info pack of all our programmes and activities in the entire week. The work shadowing experience was equally helpful and organised.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • As mentioned earlier, people here are driven, hungry , motivated and the cream of the cream. Only the best candidates work here as it is quite a fast moving industry and it requires a lot of passion and commitment in your work. The insight week was generally more relaxed and fun , but was very insightful. The case studies and presentations helped a lot.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested a lot in us from accommodation, luncheons to networking evenings. Candidates were also given the opportunity to fast track our insight week into a summer internship, so the company do invest a lot in delivering and pitching to the best people on what they do and how we could be part of their organisation. The training was excellent.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I came here with a confused mind on what investment banks do and what operations are available within a bank. After attending the insight week, I learnt a lot more about the banks and their core strengths and specilisation, and now I am certain that I would like to join the M&A team after doing some work shadowing experience with the team in London during the week.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The company presentation also focuses a lot about their company culture and i picked up a lot from there. People there were motivated and friendly and I really like the culture over there. I also managed to discover more about the company working culture via the networking events.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I would give this a rating of 10/10 as now I am certain how my degree can help me in my future work. I never expect to learn so much from the job itself, just by doing work shadowing in different desks. Morgan Stanley is the firm that I am really keen to join and I have decided that I want to join their M&A team due to my interest and the people in the team.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was given an accommodation and reimbursed on all my travel allowances. The reimbursement process were equally efficient.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • We had a networking session at Smollensky's and tapas dinner at Iberica. There were plenty of networking opportunities for you to meet the other employees and the directors of the company. Make sure you go to these networking events as it's all about networking in the financial industry.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • It was absolutely splendid, one of the best networking events that I have ever attended. The former allows you to network with your peers and fellow spring interns. It's important to get along well as they might be your colleagues in the future, The latter was just great as there were so many employees around and you get a one on one session with a lot of them to ask about their passion, jobs and daily roles. You just learnt so much about the people and the company.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • They are heavily involved in charities events. A member of the firm told me that she had just campaigned for a non-profit organisation in a 10km run in Hyde Park. She managed to raised 300-400 pounds from the charity run itself. Despite working in a bank, they still got their own life.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this to everyone who is reading this as I believe this is a great opportunity for you to learn about Morgan Stanley, its operations and their people. At the same time, you get to network with the best people in the city and you wouldn't want to miss out on that.
