    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed working for Boots, everyday was interesting and brought new challenges, the staff were all incredibly nice and so helpful if I was unsure of anything. The support I received was amazing and I learnt so much.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I won an 'employee of the month' award during my time, and was constantly praised for differences I had made and projects I had pulled off. At Boots there is constant praise for hard work which I found really encouraging.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There is a wealth of support at Boots. I received this from my managers, as well as colleagues. There was always someone to ask if I needed help with anything, and I had various people coaching me in order to ensure I pushed myself to achieve further.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was incredibly busy, and feel I got everything I could out of the placement.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility. I was filling an actual job role and during my year I worked to tackle some of the tasks required for a promotion, in order to ensure I had learnt beyond just my role and attempt to get onto the graduate scheme.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My degree is in fashion, so not directly related however in my final year we study a business module for which my placement will be incredibly helpful. Working at Boots has also enabled me to work out what I want to write about for my dissertation.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a really friendly atmosphere in the office. Although it is a place of work and everyone works hard, everyone even the senior managers will chat to one another, laugh and have fun. This enabled me to feel more relaxed and enjoy being at work even more.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement is a scheme at Boots with over 20 of us. We had days and trips organised by Boots in order to spend time as a group and work on various development areas of skills. It was incredibly helpful to have this support group.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very. I have been offered a place on the graduate scheme and have accepted this. I definitely want to work for Boots.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes. Many of us lived together, I think there were 4 shared houses altogether. We often went out either as a big group or in smaller groups.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • In comparison to where I live at University it was higher, as I live in Huddersfield which is very cheap. It is also important to bear in mind at University you tend to go out on student nights which are cheaper, whereas on placement you don't. It is all more expensive, but when you're working you have the income to support it. The house I lived in was very good value for money, and you also get a maintenance loan to help.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Really good, Nottingham is a great night out.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were, however these weren't advertised in a way that enabled enough knowledge or excitement around them.
