    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my summer experience. In particular as a summer intern you want to learn as much as you can. During my experience at MS I got a lot of exposure to the different areas of the business and the industry as a whole. The work is extremely interesting with the obvious caveat that the hours are extremely intense and the long.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel that a particularity of Morgan Stanley is that they care deeply about their employees. As an intern, you don't feel like an intern, but rather an integral member of the team, which was terrific.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I received very good mentorship. You get paired with a mentor (more senior) and a buddy (usually more junior) who help guide you through the process. So you are definitely not left on your own. Moreover people are very open and very approachable, and are more than happy to guide you even though they are extremely busy.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The day usually starts early in the morning, and you are pretty busy catching up on news and finishing up various projects you are working on. Around midday the day usually slows down a bit, but you keep busy by going and meeting new people. I usually finished up my days working on projects and reading up on research.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Surprisingly I was given quite a lot of responsibility. Although at first, people are slightly reluctant to give you work. If you prove yourself you will quickly, get more tasks and more important tasks as well.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills you develop are absolutely essential. You learn valuable social skills, and how to interact in a fast paced professional environment. You also gain technical knowledge of the industry, and understand how to build models in order to understand market dynamics.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great. People were nice and approachable. Obviously there was some stress as everything is extremely fast paced.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Everything was extremely well organized. We had social events for interns, and with different desks as well.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company definetely invested a lot. They train us for an entire week, and continue to train us throughout the summer. We had talks with senior members of the firm and they payed very close attention to our progress and development throughout the summer.

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Definitely extremely appealing. I think the combination of the technical and social skills combined with the fast paced challenging environment make this a very attractive place to work. Moreover the people at MS are extremely open and care deeply about your success. And will definitely help you if you put in the effort on your end.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Absolutely everyone is a lot of fun, and I made a lot of very close friends during my placement.
