    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • barclays was very welcoming and did their best to make sure that we were prepared for the jobs we were about to do. This involved making sure we knew the companyp, had some training and had networks to use if we needed. We had the opportunity to really explore the different areas of the bank and the company.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Very friendly, down to earth and hard working. Easy to ask advice and feedback as well as general conversation.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • Made the time to ensure that I knew and was comfortable with what I was doing. Had the flexibility to allow me to explore and take on work that I found more appealing. Were easy to talk to.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • It's about managing your time, and expectations. How busy you are I found depended on how you managed your tasks, sought after new tasks or were honest about your current work load. This was also dependant on the team at the time and the workload. But genuinely the way I found my teams set up meant your work load balance depended on me.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was given full responsibility of my tasks, there was very little oversight unless I asked for feed back. However in the bigger picture I was given enough responsibility to make my work and influence feel valued but not to much to overwhelmed me

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Alot of the skills and insight are very different to what I learned my my degree but very valuable at work

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Alot of networking events, as an intern, as part of the other company networks and sports teams and as your own team. Always something to get involved in if you look. I was on the trading floor so it was interesting

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • Personally it went really well. From logging in on the first day to logging out on the last. Socials were very well planned alot of thought went into them. Objectives of placement were very clear.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • Access to online learning even before placement started. Then a few days at a training center. Then weekly training /insight seminars. Flexibility for us to set up our own training sessions. Online Library and courses while we were there.
