    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The atmosphere at Red Gate was really good, with everyone friendly and helpful. The free breakfasts and lunches provider were of amazing quality and variety; The work was both interesting and challenging.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As an intern, my 2 cents at meetings and discussions were valued far more than I deserve. I could see the impact of my opinions on the project. Biweekly retrospective meetings actively encourage everyone, including interns, to voice out any opinions they may have, good or bad.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager had weekly review meetings with me and gave me constant feedback plus help set and achieve goals in the internship. There is a system in place for members of the team to give anonymous feedback during this session, and I found it very useful.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There was a good balance between work and personal life, and I was never expected to stay overtime. Flexible hours helped, especially during summer vacation.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was treated like a full developer, albeit a junior one. There were no restrictions placed upon me and I was given the same responsibility as any other developer. It was a refreshing change from other internships where I found interns to be "babied".

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I picked up working in a large development team has been invaluable, and I would aspire to maintain the culture I've seen at Red Gate no matter where I work in future.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was fun and jovial, much joking to be had all the time.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was smooth and managed to handle my requests for an early start and multiple extensions without issue. I was assigned to a team from day one and I was engaged throughout.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given full access to all their employee training events and I could attend any talk I wish to, of which there were many. I'm very satisfied with the content and knowledge I picked up in these events.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The employment prospects were good, and they've hinted more than once that they are open to interns returning in later years and after graduation.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a weekly pub meet and everyone had lunch together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cambridge isn't cheap, with prices on a constant upward climb. There isn't much to do during the summer as most students have left.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The office was slightly far from the city centre, and as the students have left for the summer, it can be empty at times.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many clubs and events organized.

    5/5
