Job Title: Marketing Analyst

The Role
- Role Description
Carrying out analysis on the company's products. A large number of ad-hoc requests, as well as some more in-depth research pieces. Used SQL to analyse the data and pull the correct data from the warehouse. Also helped to keep the regular reporting system working and up-to-date.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement and the fact that the company got me doing an actual job as opposed to typical 'work experience' jobs. Would have been 10 stars, has I not been there during the time of the merger with HBOS as sometimes this led to colleagues being very stressed & confused and this feeling would rub off on others.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
The company was very good at getting Placement Students involved with both the work and the play side of the company. They were always very quick to heap praise, and to ensure both you and the company were gaining from the placement.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Had regular one-to-ones to ensure all of my university documents were up to date, and to discuss my progress in both formal and informal settings.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
I feel there was a good balance, as some days I would feel bored and like I didn't have enough to do, but these were always followed up by days where I had lots to do!
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I was given the responsibility to deal with customers/colleagues/work on my own, but there would always be someone to ask and assist if needed which I think was the right balance.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
Upon graduation it took me just 3 months to find a job in a similar role to my placement & I seem to be progressing well. My confidence in myself and my work grew extremely, and I truly believe the placement year was one of the most important things that helped me gain my very pleasing final grade!
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
It was quite balanced! Some days it would be a very busy atmosphere and therefore could feel stressed and dull. But other days people were in higher spirits - particularly when there were cakes involved or it was the day after a social event!
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
It was set up much better to what I hear from other students who did different placements. But I do know that the company who Lloyds employ to deal with the HR of placement students wasn't always the best. This is more the recruitment company's fault and not Lloyds though!
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
I went on a number of IT training courses including Excel, SQL, VBA, and also personal development courses including presentation skills. They were also keen to develop our interview and assessment centre techniques for post-university!
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
I was approached after university and told that there may be opportunities, however I had already accepted another job. I was slightly disappointed by the Graduate scheme however as they wanted very high UCAS points which I didnt have, which confused me as this didn't matter for the placement scheme.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
The placement students based in Bristol bonded straight away, which was largely helped by a 2-day induction course at the very beginning. I loved the people I worked with both students and permanent employees and there were a number of social opportunities!
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I didnt live in Bristol, but did socialise there and the prices were pretty good!
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
As it's a very student-oriented city there was something nearly every night!!
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Some social events and some social clubs, but not always actively promoted! Better than most companies though!
