Job Title: Web Placement Student
Overall Rated 6.5

The Role
- Role Description
My main concern was to be involved fully in the council's website; whether that was with constant updates or redesigns or maintainence.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I found the placement to be truly inspirational in improving my work-skills and confidence. I was able to improve and test myself in areas of web programming that I wouldn't have had to use had I not been on such an extensive and specific placement.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Relationships between colleagues was always severly professional and it did seem that not many of them really knew each other well on a social and personal level. It came across that the office was a place strictly for work.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
They were always willing and, at times, overeager to doll out support but me, being the stubborn person I am, always tried to solve a problem on my own rather than ask for help.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
There was a large pile of work that was constantly added to and increased but I did relish the pressure of having a large stock of work to get through under constraints.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I was entrusted to redesign the whole transport page which is a huge job and one I put a lot of effort into.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
I knew a lot academically but I had little confidence in myself and so this placement was a huge step in restoring my confidence and helping me gain a vastly better degree.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
It was all very professional and was at time dour.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Really well and I experienced no problems.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
I was able to improve skills I had whilst also gain new skills and intellect so my development was truly invested in and improved.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- There were no perks with this placement
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
It is a good place to work where you're treat well but I think I would prefer to work for a company where I can gain interpersonal skills and social bonds.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
I was the only placement student and I didn't really click, or was able, to connect with any of the other colleagues. This was definitely a downpoint.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
I lived with mumsy and daddy so cheap as chips for moi!
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
My friends and I go out in Huddersfield every weekend so I love it!
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
It was definitely more professional than social, unfortunately.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
The council has a stigma attached to it but working for them you realise what a hardworking community they are and how they do try their best and are dedicated to their work.
