The Role
- Role Description
• Using Dun & Bradstreet; uploading ledgers, checking customer Alerts and reporting them to the credit controller if there is a significant change and ordering credit reports.
• Inputting Cash on to the EPR System (Movex) and inputting purchase Invoices.
• Working with Auditors and providing them with evidence for their testing and producing reports on fixed costs. I also gathered information on details of costs for the purpose of the corporation Tax computation.
• Updating Cost centre Budgets and recording their actual spend against budget each month.
• Maintaining the Capital database with over 100 Live projects each project with sanctioned spend from £1000-£11,000,000. Dealing with and resolving problems with project managers, closing and opening projects. Creating journals and making transfers.
• Producing the Capital Report on a monthly basis, recording the spend for each Capital project and the budgeted spend for the following months. Reconciling the report with the figures in Movex (EPR system).- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

Even though the commute was tiresome, the job was really challenging and enjoyable.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

My colleagues were easy to get along with and all extremely helpful. They praised me for the work I had completed and helped to boost my confidence.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

My manager was extremely helpful.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Some days were extremely busy and some days were quiet. Although, I was able to find something to do at all times!
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I felt that I was given alot of responsibilty during my placement. Once I had showed that I was capable of doing a good job the more responsibilty I felt I was given.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

I think my placement year was invaluable, I have seen my communication skills grow and develop over this past year and I know that will help me in my future career. I also feel like this placement year has encouraged me to continue with accountancy and therefore increased my motivation to do well in my final year!
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The atmosphere was very calm and quiet as everyone was very busy, however, everyone was friendly and always approachable.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
My induction was very organised, I was sent to lectures on safety, Brunner Mond policies, Tata policies and got to tour the site to learn more about what Brunner Mond did before I started. The overall work placement was very well structured and set up.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

- Above 25 days holiday
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?

The company do not offer graduate schemes in the finance department
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
I met up with two of the students at dinner and we would go out on a regular basis in to the town centre for dinner.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
I lived 40 miles away and never went out at night in the area.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There was a few activities an example being a swimathon although I did not take part in this.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
I would reccomend doing a placement as it prepares you for your future career and will definatley help you for your final year! And not to mention you get paid as well!
