The Role
Very enjoyable, every person I met was extremely helpful and welcoming.
Felt very welcomed by my team - went for team lunches and had team building exercises.
Had two managers to report to and who gave me guidance and I got along very well with.
Never swamped with work but had something to get on with majority of the time - during some gaps, I used these to meet new people and tried to learn as uch as possible about insurance.
Good amount of responsibility but not too much that I felt very under pressure. My project was one that will be used at Catlin so this was rewarding work.
I learnt an astounding amount about Catlin as well as the insurance industry which prior to starting the internship, I had very little knowledge of. Communication skills, computer skills, etc have all been invaluable.
The Company
Always a very fun and friendly atmosphere although my team was very hard working and quite busy whilst I was there so we did work too! After work socials were set up by Catlin and us interns organised our own nights out after work regularly as well.
Well set up. Our introductory week was fantastic - all interns spent the first week together getting to know each other, learning about insurance, learning about Catlin and teamwork exercises. This made it very easy to settle in to our departments at the end of this first week. After work socials were organised and were great for networking. Day to day set up was a balance of my manager's instructions and what I wanted to do so was a flexible and healthy balance that let me get the most out of the internship.
The first week reflected the time and care Catlin had for us - this week made it much easier to settle into the company and spending a week with the other interns meant we all became very close. There was always someone to help - I thought that some employees would be too busy to meet and chat to me about insurance but I met with several people from around the company who were all more than happy to take time out to talk to me. I was also assigned a buddy who was extremely helpful and even when he moved departments half way through my internship, he emailed every day asking if I needed anything and to check how things were going and I still saw him regularly.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing - the company is a great company to work for and I have applied for the graduate scheme. As an intern, I did not have to appply again, it is simply an interview.
The Culture
Being together for the first week meant we grew close very quickly. We then went met for lunch every day in the canteen and regularly went for drinks and/or dinner after work. The graduates organised social events for us too and were great fun.
London is obviously quite expensive but I never found that I spent much at all! Drinks were provided for free at the events held by Catlin and as Catlin employees, we received 50% off at a local bar. When we went for a curry, we found one on brick lane which cost less than £10 and was BYOB so this was very cheap!
Nightlife was great in London and I had a great night out every time we went for drinks.
Catlin had sports teams that competed in local leagues like football and netball but I didn't find out until quite late so would suggest to ask about it on the first week!
