    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?

    • The work was generally interesting and there were plenty of social events in the evening.

    • I generally felt valued and that we were important to the firm.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?

    • There were talks every other morning on the various departments in the firm and the trainees were more than willing to tell you about their experiences.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • There was a lot of advice about what kind of things you would do on a training contract and what the LPC was like.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?

    • It was very well-structured, with two 'seats' and a supervisor and trainee buddy in each of those seats.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?

    • The atmosphere was generally very good, with all the vac schemers getting along very well with each other and a lot of fun being had at the social events.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • There was a client pitch, which was value for getting a greater insight into the firm, and generally a lot of time was invested in the vac schemers.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?

    • It was a good insight, with the trainees happy to give their time to advise us, and work that was real and actually mattered.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?

    • The firm was very good at trying to instill in us what the Baker & McKenzie culture was and how they keep a worldwide culture with so many offices; I left with a very good view about what the culture of the firm is.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

    • Whilst we were paid, the pay barely covered the expenses of staying in London, and could prove a barrier to those from a disadvantaged background if they don't live in London.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?

    • There was a great deal of interaction with trainees, as well as a lunch with senior associates and some partners and a lunch with the management committee, something that was very impressive.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?

    • The social events were extremely good and quite varied, with everyone having a great deal of fun. The networking opportunities were also very god, with networking involving both partners and senior associates.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?

    • We were informed about, and invited to, various sporting activities that all members of the firm can get involved in.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?

    • It is a great experience that I would recommend to everyone, with the one caveat being that if you are tight for money and don't live in London, you may be paid more at other firms.
