The Role
- Role Description
Every day with Enterprise rent-a-car is different. You come in each morning not knowing what the day ahead will bring. You could be writing contracts for rentals, closing contracts after returns. You could be facing endless numbers of customers face to face, or on the phone. You could come in and have to handle a great deal of information under a great level of time pressure while having to maintain a "going that extra mile" mentality when dealing with customers. Everyone does their part, from the computer side of things, the paper work, filing, customer service, sourcing new corporate accounts for rentals, dealing with reservations and even down to cleaning a car.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
I loved most aspects of my placement, the variety of work has been superb and it has really opened my eyes to the world of work. Days can be tiring and at times crazy, while the 10 hour shifts are long, they can fly past when your busy.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
Enterprise really is like a family, no cheesy comments intended. Buy every day it feels like everyone is working for each other, no matter what level you are - manager or summer intern - everyone has the same level of respect from each other. The encouragement to work hard for each other and creat revenue for the company is unreal.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
Guidance from management was great, your fellow colleagues will do anything they can to help, and everyone from top to bottom always tells you to just keep asking and asking questions. As a summer intern you are also given a mentor to make sure everything is always going well. In the busy city centre branch the time the branch manager has to support you is limited however.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
Being in the city centre I very rarely experienced a quiet or boring day, however I do know that outter city branches were a bit more quiet. There will always be something for you to do but the busy days really are busy. You can be on the go almost straight for the 10 hour shift, although tought the day flys past.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
The main thing with Enterprise is that everyone is working towards being a manager. Everyone who is there is wanting to one day run their own brand so from the very beginning you are thrown in at the deep end and given a lot of responsibility. You could be through the door for 5 minutes on your first day, and you would be asked to answer the phone and get to it.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
This placement really has opened my eyes and allowed me to view how the working world works. It offers so much more than other jobs that you could go for, the skill list that is provides you is lengthy. Customer service, financial skills, people management, time management, sales experience and so many skills have been worked on while at Enterprise, which I will take forward to use.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
Although the days were tough sometimes and the work was tiring, the morale never dipped. Everyone always seemed to have a smile on their face and everyone used each others energy to keep the beat up. Cakes on a friday always helped!!
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
A great, professional internship. From day one the company presents themself in a very efficient and organised manner. The plan and schedule for interns is well worked and trys to allow experience in all aspects of the business. Like all internships, some improvements could be made.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
A lot was invested in each employee, there are plenty of meetings before starting the job and every employee starts with a one week training course in their head office at Stirling. They either fun a car for you to get there, or can fund accomodation and food for the full week that you are there. They really make you feel important and that you learning and developing is vital to the company.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Company Parties/Events
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Always great opportunity, if you are willing to put the work in to impress, they are willing to reward you. I already have the offer to stay on part time when I go back to uni at the end of summer, and then go back full time the following summer.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
Very friendly and fun staff who were always up for a laugh and a good night out.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Glasgow city centre, plenty of cheap places for students for a good night out. They travel costs into the city can be expensive to be in 5-6 times a week, but there is plenty of bars, clubs, shops and places to ear.
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
It is Glasgow city centre after all!
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
Charity work goes on within the company which you can volunteer for, there are also branch nights out that can easily be arranged and there is Elite day each month where the company treats the top section of employees in Scotland for their hard work and sale for the month.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
Enterprise is no piece of cake, but if you want to stand out from every one else, you want to test yourself and your ability while learning a lot of new skills and meeting a great bunch of people - Enterprise rent-a-car could be the place for you!

Internship Questions & Answers
-
Hello,
I've just read through your review for the summer placement at Enterprise. Looks like you had a good time.
I applied for a position in the same location as you did and i received an interview offer towards the ending of this month. Could you possibly give me an idea of the types of questions to expect?
Thank you.
Question asked by a RateMyPlacement user on 3rd March 2011
-
Hello! Yes I did, and I actually still work with them part time while I am at Uni so the accomodate me well.
In terms of what type of questions at this stage it will not be too difficult and will be like most other interviews you will have, such as what would you do if... why do you have an interest in... what would you bring to your branch.. and so on.
One piece of advice would be know the company, know the history, where they have been and have an opinion on where they want to go. Be positive and show a lot of energy but don't be over the top obviously as would look cocky.
Em other things... Customer service is Everything at enterprise, you wont believe how much they value it so make sure you are clued up on that and discuss it plenty of times. Try plan answers which show a lot of leadership and that you learn fast, from your first day you are dropped in at the deep end so show your enthusiasm for that challenge!
Well I hope this helps, best of luck!
