    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I absolutely loved all the social events and the people, both at the firm and on the vac scheme. The work was a bit of a struggle for me personally but I wouldn't say that's a negative. Ultimately if you're working somewhere for three weeks you want to get as much work as possible. Overall thought it was a great experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got on really well with my team, and was always invited to their own socials. In terms of work value, I was given a lot of tasks so they must have had some faith in me.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was really helpful. She was newly qualified so she understood the pressures of being in my position. She helped me draft important emails and gave me lots of inside tips on how to succeed. I would recommend her if this wasn't anonymous!

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Out of the three weeks there was only one day where I was twiddling my thumbs/had to ask for work. I was too busy to be bored, but I wouldn't say the work was thrilling.

    1/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Realistically, the work I was given probably didn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but how much important work can a non-law grad expect to get on a summer scheme? The work I did was work that needed to be done, but wasn't incredibly glamorous. I did get to attend three client meetings but obviously I was supposed to listen and learn rather than talk.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Massively. I've learnt a lot about working under pressure and in teams, and also more specific stuff like my analytical and comprehension skills. The social side also helped with networking in a professional atmosphere.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • My team were a fun bunch, but the ethos was definitely work hard play hard. It was never tense or scary though, they've all been in my shoes at some point.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I'd say almost perfect, but the late night drinks didn't work well with the early morning wake-ups.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I'd say they invested time more than anything. My supervisor obviously had to take time out of her schedule to help me, but nothing that tangible. Unless you count IT training on the second day.

    1/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I'd love to work here.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone was very sociable. Lots of drinks and lunches together.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of socialising is very expensive in London obviously but usually it was paid for by the firm. I live at home so cost of living was only the stress of putting up with my parents.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • It was central London so lots of variety.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I went on a charity day with my team but that was it besides drinking. No sports stuff or anything.

    2/5
