    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The people I worked with were fantastic and really helpful. They never looked at me as a placement student, but as another member of the team. I felt valued.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Most staff members were really happy to have me working for them and tried to give me interesting and challenging tasks.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support was given in the form of a careers coach and buddy. Both were very useful to have and were keen to help me meet my aims and desires.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varied from day to day. Mostly very busy (in a good way). Some days were a struggle to find work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given freedom and flexibility in my work and was not checked up on all the time.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working as part of a team in a professional environment was invaluable experience. Equally, learning how to use computer software such as databases and lotus notes was very useful. I also managed to improve my research skills and was able to go on some technical courses which should stand me in good stead if I return to a similar department after I graduate.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Sometimes very quiet, especially when holiday season came around. Mostly enjoyable however at times this was not the case.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • One small hiccup at the beginning as my laptop was sent to the wrong place and I couldn't start work until late afternoon but otherwise, very well thought out. Lots of support networks. frequent meetings with other gap scholars from around the country. Good training sessions offered.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to attend Local as well as national learning events and was given a lot of flexibility as to what I wanted to learn about. This could not have been done better.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Have already secured a conditional offer with PwC for when I graduate. Looking forward to it.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Frequent meetings among our peer group. many organised by the firm. others organised by individuals. Good budget for Xmas scholar party!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Lived near Oxford, worked in West end of London. Not cheap to commute and west end is expensive for most things. However it never stopped people going out for a few drinks after work.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Lots of good bars and clubs around charing cross area of London. Only downside was the high prices.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • In a 9 month placement, we were involved in fundraising for an under performing school, took part in a charity skydive, delivered presents to under privileged kids and even helped to paint a school. I also joined the firm's hockey team and enjoyed fixtures against rival companies.

    4/5
