The Role
- Role Description
Working as a part of the Finance function within the PSA group, I had the opportuniy to work throughout the department and in various different areas; Credit Control, Accounting (for Automotive and Finance Companies), New and Used Vehicle Invoicing and Dealership Accounting. I carried out both project based activities as well as playing an integral role in the department's daily operations, including regular contact with customers and dealing with old, overdue debts.
- 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
-
The varied experience and insight into many of the Finance functions was a great way to make my placement wortwhile and interesting.
- 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
-
One of the benefits of working within a large organisation like such is receiving the opportnity to meet many different people. I always felt like a valued member of the team and was given the same level of responsibility as any other staff.
- 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
-
It was great to work in an environment where my views were appreciated, especially as my requests to gain experiences in other areas of Finance were welcomed and dealt with.
- 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
-
A peak period for the Finance department was towards the end of the month, and this is the time that I would be very buy as the department has adeadline to report figures to France (head office). At other times, I feel I had the right balance of work, with a mixture of project based and day-to-day tasks.
- 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
-
I experienced great work loads at times which came with a considerable amountof responsibility. This is extremely common when working in any Finance division.
- 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
-
An insight into the real working world is definitely amazing,. In addition to the development of my accounting knowledge, this year helped me to develop some general yet essential skills on how to succeed when working in business, such as communication and inter-personal skills. These will prove to be very helpful at University ad beyond.
The Organisation
- 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
-
The office had a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, I found it very easy to settle in.
- 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
-
Overall, the scheme was very well organised and planned.
- 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
-
The placement included an induction session and some training days, which were very helpful. The training modules were extremely beneficial with insigts into delivering presentations at a professional level, team working and motivation in general.
- 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
-
- Subsidised Canteen
- Sports and Social Club
- Subsidised/Company Gym
- Company Parties/Events
- Above 25 days holiday
- 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
-
Great company to work with! Supporting in every way, and invest in graduates in terms of training and time.
Other Information
- 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
-
This was a great opportunity to come together with students in the same position as myself, yet with different experiences and work placements within the organisation.
- 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
-
Coventry is a lovely place to live, quite easy to get around ad not too expensive either!
- 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
-
Nighlife is not too bad, although Birmingham is not too far away.
- 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
-
There were many opportunities, such as family fun days and otehr similar activities.
- In addition to these questions, is there any extra information you would like to leave about your experiences on your work placement that other students may be interested in?
-
I would definately recommend a placement at PSA Peugeot Citroen to anybody who has the drive to succeed in business and likes to work in a fast paced working evironment. I enjoyed my work placement and it is definitely a great place to work!
