Role Description

A one year industrial placement as part of my degree, I worked in the marketing department and was in charge of the Credit Card campaigns. My role involved every part of delivering a direct mail to LTSB customers, this meant I helped with the planning meetings organising what we should market, to who, when, and what it would involve. Within the planning meetings I would give advice to the campaign team on what the best way to market customers with credit cards, I would also have to come up with solutions or quick work around to any problems that came up. I then built the campaigns on a system called TRM inputting the selection criteria and then having to amend it in order to meet the campaign team’s requirements. I was in charge of delivering the campaign to the mailing house and making sure everything complied with the data protection act. After the campaign was delivered I reported on weekly sales, response rates, profits and targets, it was particularly important that I kept the campaign team up to date with how the campaign was running as last minute changes would be made if the campaign was performing badly. This job involved numerous skills especially time management, organisation, communication, delegation and team. Through this role I have gained problem solving skills, learnt how to work under a lot of pressure and been able to multi-task a number of campaigns at any one time.

There was a lot of work to do, it was all about managing your time effectively and efficiently, if you can do this then it is a good challenge of your time keeping skills. I was never bored and had a wide variety of work to get involved in.

My placement gave me plenty of development in the business side of my degree however I didn't get too involved in the Mathematics side of things.
