The Role
I did not find this work placement a struggle at all and i enjoyed it immensely. I wouldnt go as far as to say it was the best job ever but it was a nice experience.
The entire store team were friendly and made an effort to talk to me when i first start so i felt quite valued by them.
My departmental manager and assistant managers demonstrated how to do everything which meant i could carry out tasks without help after.
The workplace was very relaxed and there was not any pressure to do things quickly which mean there was a good balance in time.
Besides completing the tasks i was set by my managers i did not have any responsibility during the placement.
Skills i learnt from training and the experience have not helped at university but they would help if i was to return back to boots
The Company
In the store the atmosphere was typical for a big retail shop such as boots. The level of work varied throughout the day as the store got busier and quiet.
The management were very helpful in organise the placement for me and they allowed a seamless experience.
Training from my managers was very short and no further development was required after.
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Due to the good vibes from the store future employment prospects within boots is quite appealing to me.
The Culture
I cant comment on this because there were not fellow placement students working with me at the time. The staff were sociable though.
Transport in the area was expensive but the cost of general socialising was fairly standard.
A great clubbing scene with plenty of late night bars and pubs too which meant it was difficult to get bored.
A good social scene in the area and many social clubs were open to new members. I didnt get involved however so i cant comment about these.
