    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • It was a fantastic experience to make a tangible difference in a global company. Although the internship was incredibly challenging, it was also very rewarding

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Colleagues valued your contribution to the team and spent time helping you understand the work you were undertaking. I was often invited out by colleagues for lunch and coffee where I could discuss my role and career with them in an informal environment

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • We were assigned a buddy and a mentor - this helped immensely as I could speak to them about a range of issues. I could talk to my buddy about more personal issues and could ask more technical questions to my mentor.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • Very busy - I always had work to do and often had to juggle multiple jobs at the same time. However, it was very rewarding and I wouldn't have had it any other way.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • Initially, I wasn't given much responsibility at all and was just involved in doing small projects such as researching a company or formatting pitchbooks. However, after gaining the trust of my colleagues, I was given more challenging roles.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • I developed the ability to work under pressure and to communicate effectively. I also learnt a range of technical skills which will assist me in any finance modules that I decide to undertake this year.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Great fun - everyone works very hard but they are all friendly and make time for you.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • Very good - although my programme was not rotational, which could have improved my exposure to different teams.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • We had a week of intensive financial product training at the beginning of the programme and a range of interesting talks by senior management throughout the internship.

    • I received a job offer from the bank.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Yes, but we were all busy working and it was hard to find time to socialise with other interns outside of work.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • Very expensive - but it was to be expected in central London.

    • There are a few bars and clubs nearby but they are all very expensive.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • We had a community outreach day in the first week where we volunteered at a school, however there were not any other activities.
