The Role
The internship was an interesting experience in that I learned a lot about the team that I was put in. However, due to my lack of experience there was little tasks that I could get involved in and I was often bored.
The office layout results in an isolated feeling at times, particularly because everyone around is always very busy and on calls.
The first couple of week were great however this dimished throughout the summer. The other members of my team often worked from home rather than coming to the office which was not ideal for learning about the company.
I did not have much more than an hours work daily basis, I filled my time doing online courses, chatting to other interns and surfing the internet.
I was given my own project which was great, however aside from that I could take on much work due to problems with gaining access to certain systems and my lack of experience.
I asked to become involed in a project management role, I am now taking a class in this area at university and what I learned during the internship was very relevant to the class.
The Company
Everyone around me was always very busy so it was difficult tohave too much conversation.
The recruitment process was great, during the time of the application I was studying in Spain and the company arranged to fly me over for an assessment day.
There were a lot of general training sessions for all interns to attend, such as overviews of the company as a whole and presentations from higher management. However in terms of direct feedback about my performance there was very little.
Company Parties/Events
I did get offered a place in the graduate program which I accepted and will start next year.
The Culture
There was a good social scene, however this resulted mainly in the group planning events ourselves. In previous placements that I have undertaken, the company has paid for and organised many more events, team building excercises and nights out.
I live in Glsgow anyway so didn't notice any difference.
As above, I already lived in Glasgow.
Yes, one of the most appealing things about the company is the opportunities to get involved with charity work.
