  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • I really enjoyed the opportunity to work on real projects and talk to people from across the bank. I also enjoyed the training week and events with the other interns.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • At first some colleagues didn't fully understand the role of an intern however this changed once I began my projects and they were very welcoming and willing to offer help.

    • My manager was always willing to offer help when I requested it but their style of management allowed me to get on with my work by myself most of the time.

    • At first I had a lot of free time but towards the end I became very busy with my own work and the intern project.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was in charge of a few projects and was able to help organise a large event during my internship. I was also involved in smaller tasks across the team too.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • I increased my confidence, presentation and teamwork skills a lot and became more familiar with data analysis and financial terms.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • My team were very talkative and willing to help which created an enjoyable atmosphere to work in. However this varied across the bank with other teams more subdued.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?

    • The internship was very well organised with many events and training sessions and we always knew when the events were and what they would entail. There was also always someone that we could ask for guidance on about the internship programme if necessary.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • The first week of the internship was a training week where we increased our knowledge of the bank, financial terms and our soft skills. We also received training on how to give a presentation and business pitch for the internship project.

    • I got a graduate job offer based on my performance on the internship and this was given on the last day.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • All the interns became friends quickly and were always willing to socialise after work. The events during the internship also allowed networking with other colleagues and I attended team events after large team meetings.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • As we were based in Canary Wharf the cost of living was high.

    • The nightlife was good however it was expensive in Canary Wharf.

    • The interns often got together after work and a football game was organised for us.
